Posted November 11, 200816 yr This pair have just had 5 out of 5 eggs hatch and I can't wait to see them feather up. Hen - color is a touch more violet on her belly than in photo Cock - Skyblue Opaline Spangle
November 11, 200816 yr I can't wait to see the results to see if you get any dilutes like the hen, if so then the dad is split for dilute . Keep us updated for sure.
November 16, 200816 yr Author Chicks are coloring up quite as I expected. These are the oldest 3. Chick 1 - middle to tail feathers are dark. Chick 2 - as chick 1 Chick 3 - doesn't appear to be as dark
November 16, 200816 yr So pretty, congrats! I can't wait to follow the progress of chick 3 in particular :bump:
November 17, 200816 yr Chick 3 is also a normal. Chick 2 looks like it could possibly be an opaline, judging by the white down and blue on the feathers over its elbows. I notice chick 3 has 1 black primary feather and a few other black feathers whereas the others are lighter. Maybe a recessive pied in the works or just a strange baby. Mmmm I certainly wasn't expecting normals??
November 18, 200816 yr Mmmm I certainly wasn't expecting normals?? If there were no other mutations present the expected result from this pair would be: opaline and opaline spangle females; normal and spangle males, in about equal numbers. Single factor violet should be present in about half the chicks. The dilute mutation of the hen is recessive so it would have to be carried in a split form by the cock bird before you'd get chicks similar to the hen
November 23, 200816 yr Author An update of chick photos Chick 1 - Violet Opaline - sorry couldn't pick up the color properly in the photo Chick 2 - Colbalt Chick 3 - Cobalt Chick 4 - Cobalt Chick 5 - Still to young to tell
November 23, 200816 yr congrat, they are looking wonderful, I can't wait to see more of them feathered up
