Ive read on a few sites that you shouldnt feed your budgie cabbage, thing is Ive been feeding mine cabbage for ages and they love it and is hasnt made them sick at all.

 

Anyone know?

Im really not sure about this one! My budgies havehad cabbage with no ill effects. Maybe its a case of too much and too often can give your bird the wild-sh*tes like too much lettuce does to a rabbit.

I imagine cabbage would be like lettuce and celery leaves. They're really water based and too much would give your birds the runs!

i dont feed raw cabbage but i picked up some new stuff i saw at the pet shop last weekend. i dont really know whether my budgies actually like it or not, some of it ends up on the floor....but its a packet of like dried veggies. its got chilli peppers, cabbage and celery all mixed up. it looks a bit like grass with red bits in it!

 

it probably doesnt have much nutritional value but i like to give my birds lots of different things so they have a bit more variety in their lives! as i said though....most of it ends up on the floor! :(Laughing out loud): i still mix it into their seed every few days.

 

i think raw cabbage has quite a strong smell and so might contain some sort of acid or juice that upsets their tummy if they eat to much?

its called 'drigreens field fresh' and its made by 'ultracare'. it says on the packet that it is for all birds and is a mix of greens similar to what birds would seek in the wild. it smells like herbs

 

nothing even comes close to my budgies favourite treat though! - hard boiled mashed egg with grated carrot! unfortunately it stinks out the room but they ADORE it.

Yes I use the field fresh as well,mine do seem to eat it but I'm not sure just how 'fresh' they actually are?

i did wonder, as they are dried veggies! i dont expect it is very nutritional, i just thought that they would appreciate the variety now and again - i dont always like giving them honey treats all the time because they seem to scoff them down and nothing else!

I got Blinkie a fruit honey stick. It's got sections each one with a different type of fruit. He seems to like it!!! I also get these things called Toppers. They're little seed treats with some sort of fruit or egg or plant in the middle. They're favourite amounst my budgies!!!

I have always been told cabbage is bad, although one before we knew we gave some to the birds and they were okay, but they didnt eat very much.

I BELIEVE the only things that are absolutely specifically BAD for budgies (like kills them) are:

 

Avocado

Chocolate

Alcohol

 

The rest is up to them and their taste. Mine LOVE ficus leaves - the nearest I can find to eucalyptus. Otherwise I grow them fresh grass and lettuces in window boxes.
