December 11, 200816 yr Author How long can I keep baby out of the nest each day? I dont wanna stress mum out. I would prefer to just take bubs away (like and bandaid!) all at once. I feel if I take it out I will be able to spend more time with it than letting mum rear it???
December 11, 200816 yr As a baby they are very accepting of being handled anyway, much moreso than larger parrot babies. You will find that as long as you handled babies for about ten minutes a couple of times a day until they get close to fledging that's more than sufficient. Handrearing can be a fairly stressful experience for a baby to start withplus can come with it's own set of emotional problems. Have you read Deb's account of raising Roxy as a lone baby? Her experience confirms a decision I made quite a while ago to never raise a baby on it's own unless absolutely necessary. You may find that being a bush budgie it will have a more flighty temperament to start with which might be hard to get past.
December 11, 200816 yr I think MB is right the closer they are to their real heritage I bet the flighter they are, you will find that show budgies are much calmer then the pet type. I love this picture did you submit it for January Budgie of the Month?
December 11, 200816 yr Jess I reckon you should convert that picture to black and white and print it out and frame it. It would make a great picture for on the wall of your future breeding room
December 12, 200816 yr Author Hopefully there will be many more to come when I figure out my awesome camera. When I handle baby should I be in view of the mum? Will it be okay to take baby away for 10 mins? No I havent submitted it elley, im lazy hahaha. Feel free to submit it for me ;D hahahaha
December 12, 200816 yr I always handled the babies in the same room as the nest box and never had a problem. The hen could always see what is happening. But I think aslong as there is a chick in the nest box she will feed it.
December 20, 200816 yr Author UPDATE: It (are we still sure it is a HE?) is running very fast as well
January 10, 200916 yr I remember seeing him in another thread a while ago, how are the feathers coming along?
January 10, 200916 yr All done and big in the aviary at the moment. Is this the one that came out grey green ?
January 10, 200916 yr Author Yer it is Pics are soon when I can be bothered :sadsorry: Edited January 10, 200916 yr by maesie
January 10, 200916 yr I was totally under the impression that a genuine bush budgie was only in the light green coloration ....is this wrong information ?
January 11, 200916 yr Author Exacly kaz. Light green is the colour. But I guess muations had to start somewhere. Unless its a dietary thing?
January 11, 200916 yr Yes Bush budgies are light green. I am just worried that your bush budgies may not have been pure bush budgies.
January 11, 200916 yr Yes Bush budgies are light green.I am just worried that your bush budgies may not have been pure bush budgies. I think you may be right. Something isnt as it appears to be :hi:
January 12, 200916 yr The thing is that it may not even be your breeders fault. If a single bird of another colour snuck into the breeding even many generations back other colours and mutations which are recessive to normal could be carrie in hidden form for a long time before showing themselves
January 12, 200916 yr Haha that last picture is adorable. BoM! It is really strange as both the parents were light green right? Maybe it has something to do with her late development? Edited January 12, 200916 yr by Sailorwolf
January 13, 200916 yr Author Yep, both parents were the picture perfect bush budgies.id like to see if she moults up or not
