November 28, 200816 yr I would leave it with the mother and top up feed it if mum isnt, but also allow the mother time to try and feed it too.
November 28, 200816 yr Author Thanks guys! Will do. Ill try and get someone to feed it while I am at work tomoz. Pray mumma takes over. Ill go feed bub now. Cross fingers I dont need too! UPDATE: Just went to feed bub, and he had a full crop!!! PRAISE GOD! Would this be left over from the 7:45 feeding? or would she be feeding him? Edited November 28, 200816 yr by jwancia
November 28, 200816 yr Congrats on the full crop ... BUT are you sure that you weren't going in there at the wrong time .... Ie before feeds from it's mum?
November 28, 200816 yr Author I wouldnt know Neat?... When ever I checked it it was empty, so I presume she wasnt feeding it. Its not like she didnt have an opportunity to feed....? dunno?!Oh KAZ thats great news. The amount of prayer these little bubbas have had from my family is crazy. While I was on the loo before, I said a little prayer for the wee bub and mumma - must have helped! YAYYAYAYAYAYAYYAYAY YAY!
November 28, 200816 yr Congratulations on the little fella, Great news about the full crop and I so wish you the best for all the other eggs to hatch and be fed from Mum, alot of first time hens get a bit overwhelmed for the first day or two, then like, they just all of a sudden get it and get to the job at hand. Well done and good luck.
November 28, 200816 yr Thanks so much to EVERYONE for your loving support! Your awesome. It's the best group of people isn't it! Glad things are looking better for you and bubba! Now you can get some sleep!
November 28, 200816 yr That is awesome news!!! Now where are the pics??? I really am looking forward to seeing the differences in development between these one's and pet or show type budgies... I can only imagine just how small they are at the moment. I am so glad to hear that your little one is being fed. You must be feeling great. I was actually getting kind of down reading how things were turning out and then the mum kicked in it was great!
November 28, 200816 yr Author BABY NUMBER 2 THIS MORNING! YAY! Ill get pictures later when I check its fed (before both crops were empty but the shell was still there so ill let her be for a while)

November 29, 200816 yr Author OMG! DAD JUST GOT OUT. This is turning from bad to worse. I dont think i am ment to keep budgies! What do I do?
November 29, 200816 yr Keep an eye on mum, she should be fine. Sorry to hear about the cock, what happened?
November 29, 200816 yr What happened??? Sorry to hear about that... They were outside too weren't they??
November 29, 200816 yr Author Yer the dad snuck out of the nest box. Never to be seen again. Oh god I am sooo pi@#ed off right now, Im ready to just throw in the towel and be done with animals for good. Hence why I never wanted them outside in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRR Edited November 29, 200816 yr by Neat PLEASE REFRAME FROM USING SWEAR WORDS ( CUSSING ON THE FORUM)
November 29, 200816 yr You're not having a very good run at the minute. Hope things pick up for you and your budgies
November 29, 200816 yr oh no , im really sorry to hear that your male escaped but i hope the chicks are going well . chin up all is not lost yet
November 29, 200816 yr I'm so sorry that you have lost wild cock bird, may things take a turn for the better soon, I currently have a hen with 3 chicks whose partner decided to drop off the perch for no apparent reason before any of the eggs hatched, and although her last chick (chick 4) died today it hatched with a 6 day gap so was much smaller than the other 3 and I suppose with only Mum to feed them the others where just to dominate, I did give the smallest a top up before I had to go out today but unfortunately it obviously just wasn't going to make it. It's sometimes hard but what's meant to be will be and you can't always change what's going to happen. Keep your chin up and who know Mum might be a bright bird and copes fine with bringing up the chicks. Good Luck .
November 29, 200816 yr That's awesome to hear about the crop being full and baby number 2!But I'm really sorry to hear out the dad escaping. Keep an eye out for him he may come back. you never know. Put an empty cage outside with seed in it and the door open next to the hen's cage and he may come for food. Put up some flyers too just in case. Why can't you keep them inside?
November 29, 200816 yr Author Cause he is a bushie, I doubt he will come back. I did have them inside but they wernt breeding. Then everyone told me to put them outside. So I did. I was always scared that this was gonna happen. POO BUM! Okays, update : Mum is feeding one chick by the looks of it. The other chick is quite quiet, so with me feeding it, i hope it will get some strength up to cry louder!. Cross fingers for number 3 due tomoz.
November 29, 200816 yr Its common for them to try and escape when you open nestbox doors and cage doors. Using a net over the nestbox when looking in helps, and a throwover net over the cage also helps. Like the kind that hangs over beds...net on a hoop. Sorry about you losing your cock bird
November 29, 200816 yr Sorry to hear that the male flew the coop ..... A tap on the nest box prior to opening it helps ..... But remember that they weren't breeding until you put them outside, No one twisted your arm
