I have learnt everything that I know .... From Here and reading books .... I have also learnt that no matter what you think ....... No matter how strong you think you are ..... the temptation is to strong ....... you will be addicted!!!!!!!

haha. To be honest I had to stop coming here for a while. I was getting itchy hands and feet to get birds and I knew that I wasn't ready to get them yet. Then I finaly got my birds and couldn't post photo's. But alas, I'm back bigger than ever!

I have learnt that I have soooo much to learn...what a great site...might not be posting just yet but definately reading :grouphug:

I have learned too much to list it all but most of all... PATIENCE!

 

I started off with one bird in last Christmas and in less than one years time have 30 keets. I wanted everything to happen yesterday. More birds, bigger housing, breeding, hatching, babies, mutations.... I wanted it all and fast. I believe that because I was in such a rush I made mistakes. I could have prepared better for some things if I slowed down. So one thing I can tell any new member... don't be in a hurry. Good things come to those who wait. And if you can't wait, read, research, and ask questions BEFORE you take that next step.

 

I've learned how to identify mutations (at a beginners level).

I have learned all sorts of things I can feed the keets to make them and their chicks healthy.

And most of all I've learned that a parakeet isn't just "a $20 bird". No matter how small or how affordable... they touch your heart in a BIG way.

 

Oh and I've learned that LEARNT is actually a word.... lol I never knew it was a word... I thought it was slang. I checked it in the dictionary... it's a real word! lol

I have learnt may things on here to many to mention and I have also learnt that I am not the only **** person on here as I think we are all.

AND best of all I think, NO I am sure I have made lots of new friends on this forum. :hi:

Ive learned MANY things in here but my BIGGEST lesson by far was discovering and learning about Coccidiosis..

After loosing more than 30 birds to it a few years back, its the one lesson ill NEVER forget and id not wish it upon ANYONE.. It was the one most heartbreaking experience Ive been through yet but all the help and knowledge i received in here got me and my remaining birds through :hi: (thank you again KAZ.. its one lesson ill NEVER forget)

Slowly I'm getting back into Budgies after being out of them for so long (except for the few i have already) There is still SO MUCH to learn.. Its like a conversation a fellow Wildlife carer and myself often have .. "there is just so much to learn, I doubt ill ever learn it all in this lifetime" .. Its just nice having a group of like minded people to fall back on for advice and help

ive only been a member of the forums for a few days, but i feel my knowledge on budgies has expanded tenfold haha

i learnt how to tell the sex of a recissive pied budgie

 

 

 

 

i learnt that budgie shouldent breed untill they are over a year old (still dont no why)

 

i learnt theat budgies eat meal worms

 

and i hope there is still more to come

To be honest I don't really know what I've learned here. It is so ingrained in my mind now that it seems like I've known it for years and I can't distinguish it from what I knew, before I came, from books. Now that is the sign of good teaching.

But I have learned all the genetic mutations and their mode of action (an area I find tantalisingly interesting).

I have also learned how to deal with my fellow person and have confidence in my knowledge.

 

:rofl: Does anyone ever find after they have been reading books that they tend to write like the author? I've just been filling my head with the works of Terry Pratchett and Eric Nylund in the last few days and I have this urge to write more colourfully.

Before BBC , I have browsed several forums , red several articles .

 

It has not been much I have been here , but gained so much valuable knowledge and the most important thing is , before BBC , I had collected terrible advice and lots of OWTs , but hopefully BBC helped me out much in sorting the good from the bad and when it comes to live animal keeping , you need a forum like BBC and dedicated members to not to repeat someone's mistakes that are shared as experiences .

I have been around only a very short time but I have learned HEAPS !!

* Toxic foods - check FAQ'S BEFORE you put them in your avairy!!

* Diseases - and how to prevent them

* Foods - it's not just seed...

* Genetics - still trying...but VERY hard

i have learnt that i am always going to be learning something

In just short of a year i have learned what feels like a life-time of knowledge. And yet i know there is so much more to learn with time and experience! I have gained a firm grasp on genetics and breeding outcomes, and now have a good handle on nutrition. I would love to learn more about illnesses and how to treat birds myself if possible (only where appropriate, still relying on vets and diagnostic tests to prevent major illnesses taking out my flock!).

 

I've learned so much and im very greatful to everyone for their assistance, patience and support! I think i love budgies even more now than when i started and i never though is possible!

I have learnt that on here ( BBC ) there is always someone who knows a little more than you think or more than you do and they can help you fill the gaps in your knowledge base. With us all working together and sharing what we know, we create a wealth of knowledge we can all own and work with.

I have to say this is a great forum!!! Had my dad said i couldnt sign up i wouldnt understand as much as i do now.. i have learnt about how giving birds the right vitamins and ensuring the health is top notch.... how to tell a colour...Stratagie for problems with nests... honestly this is the BEST FORUM EVER!!!!!also i have learnt that colony breeding isnt very goood...i will have to tell my parents :question:
