Had To Euthenase A Chick Today

I had to euthenase a chick today, just 8 days old. I have been watching it in the nest and delaying the inevitable.....giving it all chances to miraculously "come good". It was apparent the chick had a broken neck. Parents were feeding it but it was hard for them. The little hen baby was all contorted up and no way would the neck or head straighten out or support itself. The chick was destined to have its head down on its chest with its neck twisted sideways. I made the decision to end its suffering and I have to say....its a very hard thing to do sometimes. Playing "God" so to speak, but knowing what you know and what you have learnt.....some chicks have to be helped to get to budgie heaven. I will never get over the feeling of sadness at times like these. BUT I do feel right and justified in euthenasia in this case. :hap:

Aww I can't even imagine how hard that must be Kaz :( Big HUGS! You did what was right

((((Hugs)))) It's aways a hard when dealing with a life. You did the right thing by the chick - poor little girl would have suffered if left.

I am so totally dreading the day when I have to do this. I am not sure how I will cope, but I know, there are times when it is necessary.

I am sure the decision wasnt easy for you, but that you did the right thing :(

So sorry to hear that you had to make this hard decision but the chick is at peace now. Big Hugs Kaz. I know that even though you know you are doing the right thing it still is very sad.

It would never have been a happy life for this little one, there are some that you can see will be able to cope but it's unlikely this would ever have been one of those. You've done the right thing for this little angel

Oh Kaz, I am soooo sorry

I believe that you have made the right choice ..

HUGS

:angel1: You've done the right thing, it's quality of life would have be shocking, and now it's in peace :( .

It's a very difficult thing to do, but just remember we're all here to support you Kaz

If God didn't intend for you to make such decisions He wouldn't have provided you with the knowlegde or skills to do so... the little one was lucky to be in your hands and not those of someone who was ill equipped to manage the situation.

Thats a very comforting way to look at the whole prospect. Thankyou :angel1:
