Posted September 15, 200816 yr I picked up this tank and stand very cheap, it's solid but needs a little work to bring it back to it's original splendour I pick it up in two weeks, then I am going to reseal the tank and sand and restain the cabinet. We are going to fill it with plants and squillions of tetras
September 15, 200816 yr Author This will be the only one with fish in it :nest: I'm going to sell a couple of the larger ones and use the nicest one for the lizards
September 15, 200816 yr Author My lovely daddy is going to come and advise me on what the best way would be to get it looking great and lend me the tools I need, he may even have some varnish in the right colour too The tough part will be sandig the scrol work around the edge of the lid as that i fidly and all has to be done bby hand.
September 15, 200816 yr Nice buy! It will look fantastic when it's done. I can't wait to see it finished and full of fishies!!!
September 15, 200816 yr Author I'm not picking it up for a fortnight so I supect it will be a good month and a half before it's ready for fish but I'll post some pregress reports
November 17, 200816 yr Author okay so I've been procrastinating over this but finally have some time now thatb I'm a stay at home mum so I got my act into gear and did it. The stand and hood got a sand and stain/varnish to match my other furniture and I resealed the tank. Filled it up and planted it yesterday so it's still a little cloudy, so a week or two and I'll put fish in once it's clearer. Getting a lot of reflection due to the cloudy water but here's a couple of progress pics for you
November 17, 200816 yr Author I'm trying to make the focus the plants, we are just going to put some guppies and maybe a few bristlenose catfish in it. I've picked plants that should spread on their own mostly so I'm going for a little underwater garden
November 17, 200816 yr very nice!!!! I have 2 bristle nose catfish and I LOVE them they are so interesting!!
November 18, 200816 yr That's looks lovely. Just wondering about the water level. Are you going to leave it low or put it higher?
November 18, 200816 yr Author Nah it will go higher I'm just waiting for the water to clear a little still and I have a few more plants to add, etc so it's easier with the water a bit lower
November 18, 200816 yr Author DONE! A close up on one section: Still a little cloudy after me mucking with it today but that should clear. I have one more plan that someone is giving me and at some stage I want to get a bit more of the grass to fill a few gaps down the front and give it a headstart on filling it up itself. Now that it's put together I just have to wait for the groundcover plants to spread until it looks like a forest
November 18, 200816 yr Author I must say it feels great to have a tank again. I have worked professionally in the aquarium industry both wholesale and retail in the past but haven't had a tank for a couple of years now. I'm enjoying looking at it so much, it's like having a little ecosystem in your lounge room Edited November 18, 200816 yr by maesie
November 19, 200816 yr I'm trying to make the focus the plants, we are just going to put some guppies and maybe a few bristlenose catfish in it. Now, if you only lived closer to me, l could give you some one month old guppy fry's that l have Edited November 19, 200816 yr by birdluv added to original post
November 19, 200816 yr Author The reason I'm going with guppies is because someone has offered me a whole heap for free
November 19, 200816 yr Author Yeah, good ole guppies that breed like rabbits, gotta love em!! He's giving me about 30 by th sound of it so in a tank that size and given they are still fairly small thats a good number to start with, I figure I'll just let them gradually fill the tank on their own  The only ones I'llhave to buy are the bristlenose
November 20, 200816 yr That will be gorgeous once the water has cleared and the guppies are filling it. I'm jealous, I would love a tank like that.
November 20, 200816 yr Author It has completely cleared now and I'm putting two guppies in tonight (they are floating in the bag at the moment) and then the bulk of thm will arrive next week
