Posted September 15, 200816 yr Took Fluff to the vet's today after her behavior had changed and the signs of watery droppings as I had discussed in other sections of this forum . Well the vet said the best thing was to admit her into hospital as there were signs of discharge from her cere and looks like a possible respiratory problem , they are going to monitor her over the next few days and feed her all the best nutrients they can give her as well as some antibiotics . Also too maybe problems caused from the fatty tumours she has that might be putting strain on her organs . There was one good sign when I arrived at the vets she did some of her normal chirps , I havn't heard them for about two weeks . I really hope my little girl pulls through . Cheers Toohp Edited September 15, 200816 yr by **Liv** changed "cear" to "cere"
September 15, 200816 yr Hey Toohp I am sorry to hear about Fluff, I really hope she is better real soon
September 15, 200816 yr Author Thanks , I hope she pulls through too , I hate looking at this empty cage . Edited September 15, 200816 yr by toohp
September 15, 200816 yr Good news that you got her to the vet in time! Don't worry, I'm sure she'll be fine, she's in good hands
September 16, 200816 yr Author I rang the vets today to get an update on Fluff , vet told me they have discovered blood in her droppings and this is not good , they will continue to monitor her and give antibiotics as well for possible heavy metal poisoning . They wanted to keep her in for an extended time 1 - 2 weeks but I had to decline due to financial reasons and re access the situation for this thursday . This is so hard , how far do I go as she was already in hospital for approx 10 days several months ago , I havn't given the consent to take bloods or xray's just yet , in the ideal world I'd spend any amount but I have to think about the fatty tumor's she already has . This is so hard as I'm so attached to her . My gut feeling is to possibly bring her home soon and see if she recover's ?
September 16, 200816 yr Blood in the poo is not a good sign at all I am sure that the Vets will let you know what is going on - When there is Blood in the Poo there are a few reasons for this the most common is worms - Good luck
September 16, 200816 yr Maybe suggest if they tested for worms, as Neat said. Fecal testing is fairly cheap vs the bood work and x-rays. Hugs, your heart will tell you how far to go we can't answer that for you. Does your avian vet take a payment plan or possible discount available to you if you tell them your situation. Everyone's opinion is different when you talk about the extents you go on your pet. As a single bird pet owner, I would find myself very apt to do whatever I could as long as the pet was not in pain in suffering and I knew there would be a positive results especially when it is a younger pet.
September 17, 200816 yr Author Some Good news I get to take my bird how tomorrow and keep her on medication for a while , vet say's even thou she has lost a lot of weight in the hospital , she's very alert and looks good , if I know my bird she won't have eaten at the hospital due to being in a different enviroment and different feed ( she's real fussy with her food ) so they had to crop feed her . Her dropping's have returned to normal . I'm so happy
September 17, 200816 yr They would be returned to normal from the Crop feeding - Lets hope he keeps the good poos up
September 18, 200816 yr Author Got my bird back today and all is good her normal chirps and funny sounds are back and she ran straight over to hang out her cage window to see me . The vet said they found a extremely high number of bacterior in her droppings of I think Strep was the name ( streplicosus ) ? She has to go back next week for another droppings test and I have to admin Baytril twice a day in her beak for six day's . I'm just looking at her now and she looks like one happy bird . A big thanks to the staff at Highbury vet clinic in Melbourne once again . Thanks everyone here for your support & kind words .
