Unsafe Everyday Things

I have just spent the last little bit with a lady who brought her sick Budgie to me. I told her to go to a vet but the two close to us are closed and after looking at the bird it was warmth untill he passes.

Seems her daughter was dying her hair and Birdy got on her shoulder he nibbled at her hair like he has done 100 times but this time she has hair dye on it, needless to say it took about 3 hours for him to pass on. When I asked why she would let him near her with hair dye on her hair she said that he had done it before and there was never an issue.

It was a reminder to me that we have to be careful we do not get lax and leave our little guys open to dangers. Needless to say when they asked for one of my bubs I said no (one I don't have any to spare and two they teenager still maintains that she did nothing wrong)

What a long painful way to die .... Poor little thing

Hair Dye - And she still thinks she did nothing wrong - GRRRR

Good on you for saying No to them

this post is so sad but I am glad you posted even the fumes from the hair dye is not good for them, poor budgie ;)

Id just like to add:

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dont let your budgie run around on the ground. I know it sounds like a given (and it is) but its easy to take for granted.

I just lost my first baby budgie. I adored him and I taught him all sorts of tricks (wave, spin fetch etc), he wants even a year old yet. Yep... You guessed it.... I stepped on him. He died in my hands on the way to the emergency room.

I Cryed and cryed and cryed for days. It was like loosing a child. I cry now as i am writing this.

Even tho you may think they are on the other side of the room, THEY MOVE SO QUICK AND QUIETLY.

Mistakes happen. And i have to live with that for the rest of my life....

I'm sorry to hear that jwancia. That's why I always wear barefeet whenever my budgies are out. So you can feel them before you put your foot down, should you put it down where they happen to be.

Hugs, on your loss there. I have always heard to keep them off the floor period so I have trained Merlin to stay off and I advise it to other members.

Thats terrible! how could she not know that hair dye would be poisoness.

I am a hairdresser and a bird should not go near a persons head during or after the hair dying.
