Hello and welcome :D

Two boys will always get on better that two girls or a male and female together.

In saying that, i have a cage with two boys and a girl in it and there are no issues. So I think it also depends on the temperaments of the birds and how much entertainment they get from you.

I have had two boys, two girls, two boys with two girls and never had an issue.

If you want two then I would get both the same sex, boys are normally better then girls but if they are from the same clutch or they get along well then don't worry and just have fun with the girls.

I agree always get boys in pairs just because of the egg laying issues that female budgies are known to have.

Thanks guys,

I brought two girls yeasterday i guess im not use to having such young ones as when i had my first budgie she was an adult and settled the same day.

Where as these two are very timid and just sit on there perch and dont move or say much.

How long does it roughly take for them to start moving round and playing.

Or am i just worrying too soon.

It will take them a good week to start to settle in.

Make sure they are quarantined for 30 days if you have any other birds too

Awww you can't swap them now the kids have seen them

you have been given great advice, and Yes if you have other birds at home, Quarantine

Didn't realize you had them already not a problem mate, Anne aka Rainbow has all females and they are awesome she said . It will probably take them a couple weeks, I would let the kids talk to them but not put their hands around them just yet, I suggest you be the one to work with them in the beginning for taming purposes but first let them settle in. I wrote up an article in the FAQ section about taming if you would like to get some ideas there.

Thanks very one was a bit worried there about having two girls. I didnt want to find them fighting all the time lol.

My boys love them but keep a distance as they saw one of them bite me and that has put them off putting fingers in the cage wich is a good thing.

I had them on the floor with a sheet over half the cage so they felt a bit more protected and my boys were laying down both staring at them talking very quiet to them so I was very happy with that too.

I've put the girls outside this afternoon and they are now talking away as they can hear all the birds that are native around here.

But still not moving around too much . I'm a bit more at ease.

Oh and no other birds in the house these are the only ones ( for now ) i just love hearing them talk and call out feels like someone is home when kids are at school so cant wait for them to settle and chat a bit more.

I have three boys and one girl and I have no problems at all. I used to worry about my babes alot when I first got them but when they settle down, they are such a joy to listen to. Great idea to put them outside because the native birds really start the budgies singing!

glad they are coming around

I do suggest putting the cage on the table not the floor even with breeding cages they suggest not having them right on the floor it is very low and unnatural for a budgie to be there they like higher ground. Do have the cage on the table and have the kids sit in front of the cage and talk to them and even give them some millet and see if the girls come for a nibble. They can put it outside of the cage next to the bars and hold it.

I have my first inside birds who I breed myself. I was hoping for two boys... but out of 5 bubs, it looks like they are all female. They do fight a little, but they'll get used to each other, and in time, the hierarchy will sort itself out!
