Posted September 8, 200816 yr Hooray!! Spring has arrived and I have finally put my six breeding pairs in their cabinets My setup is nothing special, but i hope it works all the same :nest: This is the view from the outside of the breeding room, and the kindy cage which is only housing weeds at the moment This is what it looks like in side. I have the cages up on trestles (sp??) There is a fluro light on a timer to mimic summer daylight hours. The birds have been in here for about 2 weeks and they are all seeming pretty relaxed with their partners. Lady and Barney (bottom cage) have the biggest cage because she is "claustrophobic" - they seem to be happy in there and Lady is investigating the nest box The pair in the top cage are showing no interest yet The hens in both these cages are already in the box too The hen in the bottom cage was trying to get into the nest box before i had even cut the bars away :hap: These two cages are showing some interest too, but are not as excited as the others are. They have only had the boxes for 2 days now so if there is any changes i need to make to the set up, now it the time to make them. Let me know if you see anything i should change I am really excited about my first cabinet breeding and i hope there will be lots of success Edited September 11, 200816 yr by **Liv**
September 8, 200816 yr Good luck Liv!! Everything looks great to me It certainly IS different to colony breeding lol, but its lots of fun
September 8, 200816 yr Suggestion....turn the perches around ( front to back ) in the large cage. Too hard to access nestbox and also they need to fly across the cage for mating rituals. Make one perch an easy entry to nestbox.
September 8, 200816 yr It all looks really great. Good luck with your breeding season. Cabinet breeding is much more interesting than colony breeding because you can keep a much closer watch on their progress

September 10, 200816 yr Hi I looked at your "Oh No!" thread with barney and lady when you first made it. Although I cannot see the budgies very well in this thread, I saw barney and lady and I think they are an excellent pair. I love your setup to. Good luck with everything.
September 11, 200816 yr Author Four out of 6 of my breeding hens are having these megga poo's. It seems to soon for eggs to be due as they have only had boxes since Saturday (5 days ago). I hope there is nothing wrong :hap:
September 11, 200816 yr Nothing wrong Liv............7 to 10 days is an average, Megapoos BEFORE laying.........timing is right :hap:
