My Guinea Pig Kimy

Featured Replies

Posted

Hi about two days ago my Guinea pig Gina past away and her sister Kimy is very lonely and I hug her and Kiss her for about 1 hour 3 or 4 times a day so she's not so lonely....then I put her back for a good couple of hours to eat, drink and to do her business, Which she is doing great. And I'm just thinking sitting in that huge hutch all by herself until I come must be heart wrenching....I don't really want another Guinea pig but if it will help her I will....for her. Kimy gets to have a bath when we get some coal...Im going to sit next to the fire with her in a towel to keep her warm and dry, Also anything that can help her pain of losing Gina go away will make me extremely happy, my friend bless her said she would buy me an indoor cage so that Kim can sleep in my room....

Some Video memories

Aw, poor Kimy. You are doing such a good job, in looking after her and making sure she feels happy. I think once she has grieved for Gina you could consider another piggy then. But for now I think lots of hugs and carrots.

Our horse just died yesterday morning and now his paddock mate is lonely. We are hoping to get another horse to come in and graze with her to keep her company. Poor girl, the sheep are keeping her company for now. It was very sad, because she knew as soon as the vet walked towards his car, she knew what was happening and ran off, galloped around the property and stayed at the other end of the property, running around and fretting. I'd never seen her like that. Before that, she kept him company right up until the vet went to get the injection. She settled down after awhile and went over to pay her final respects, then she walked away. She knows he is gone and seems to have accepted it.

So I can definitely sympathise with you and poor little Kimy. Hugs, cuddles, carrots and grass.

If you give her time just like a budgie that passes away they will look for their mate and then will move on and you may find she will become much closer to you as this happens with budgies when they are single budgies. I still think you should wait at least a 30 day period to ensure she is not sick, the vet said your other one wasn't breathing right but there is an underlying cause such as a respiratory infection etc... This is a good time to bond with her and greive too. ((hugs))

Jodie you are putting too much human emotions on to your piggie (I don't mean to be mean) but she doesn't have the emotions that you are feeling, she does have emotions she does miss her friend but with you around within a week she will move on and it will be like nothing happened, you of course will always remember and be sad but the fun moments will start to over take the sad moments. Maybe make up a scrapbook or picture album of your piggies together to remember them. I remember when Brandy died at 18y I was worried about Niketa who is 14 y and that is all she ever knew was Brandy was okay. I was more broken up then she was. If your piggie is displaying any signs of sickness then it means she is sick but not depressed just like budgies they do revert, redirect and move on. For us humans it is harder...I hope I didn't preach too much and come over harsh but I do want you to know that she is okay. Cute Video!

No I understand, so what your saying is in a week or so if she's not showing signs of sickness get her a companion?

Edited by KAZ

No what I am saying is in a week she will be perked up not looking for the other piggy but for you, she will rely on and really start to bonding :D.

I would say wait a month.

Our horse accepted losing her mate fairly soon.

I have a cold, Runny nose and coughing and I remember that a rodent can catch humans colds and I was to scared to hug Kimy today because of it. So can Guinea pigs catch human colds?

Article about Piggies Per this article yes they can. Guinea pigs can catch colds from people, especially as the cold virus lives on the palms of our hands which we use to stroke our piggies. So colds are always going to happen, even when your piggies don’t seem to have a source of infection you will pass them on.
