September 3, 200816 yr So I went into the office last night to complain and apparently there have only been 3 other mothers to do so as well (out of 420 students) The school council set the prices and they have been increased this year because so many parents haven't been paying the voluntary fees (the concert is held every 2 years and the last time it was $8 a ticket). They do hire a hall (don't know why when they have a stadium at school that would be big enough) Parents do the lighting etc. Performers ticket prices have been changed to $6 instead of $12 and due to the high interest in tickets they have had to limit families to 4 tickets - which is not enough for us as there is 7 of us. So I started on the fact that my 3 year old would sit on my knee and didn't need a seat and my oldest is in a wheelchair therefore he wouldn't need a seat as he had his own - then they didn't think that there would be enough room in the isle for his chair Turns out my grade 6 boy isn't in the concert he is helping back stage and my grade 3 boy doesn't even want to be in the concert because his grade is being super heroes and he doesn't want to wear the tights (he bought a note home last night saying that all super hero costumes have to be hired as they want them all the same no home made ones. A list of costumes shops was on the note and they cost approximately $30 to hire ). That was the last straw WE ARE NOT GOING!!! Kids don't care either way so the school can go and jump. Hehehe okay i didn't see this when i replied .. GOOD ON YA MATE I WOULDN'T GO NOW TOO know thing that the boys aren't interested School Fees are covered by the government that is what PUBLIC schools are for! I have never paid fees nor did my parents when Myself or Brother and sisters went ... I would be writing a formal letter of complaint! and pray to god that your son that is in the superhero part plays a important role and stuffs it up for the school ( i can be very vindictive if i want too ) The fact that they need to be hired OMG I can not be more shocked this school needs to wake up to themselves and find a better way to raise money for the school !! I feel your angry .. Can you tell
September 3, 200816 yr OMG!!!! Are you saving that your son in the wheel chair was DENIED!!!!!!!!!! okay NOW THAT HAS GONE TOO FAR! THAT IS DISCRIMINATION!!!! They are lucky that I am not a mother at that school - I would be calling the education department! - Speaking to the P & C committee .. See the hard thing is your Boys are apart of it - and not going will cause them to be upset and etc .. Are you able to speak to the principal? And see if something can be worked out .... Neat I am feeling this way but was trying to stay a little more level headed and calm (it my new thing) anyway. But now someone else is outranged I can jump on the outraged carriage as well. Yes that is discrimination and I would fight if I was you! We can call the cops if anyone denies Kama (the dog) access to any area (outside of the zoo and operation rooms)

I feel your angry .. Can you tell I have always paid all my childrens school fees, even when it was hard to get the money together I paid them. I have written a letter regarding the concert and will forward it to the School Council when I pick the boys up tonight. OMG!!!! We can call the cops if anyone denies Kama (the dog) access to any area (outside of the zoo and operation rooms) The principal rang me this morning and said that he had been to the auditorium where they are holding the concert and there is enough room for Joel's chair but it would be towards the back. I said okay - never let on that we weren't going :hap: It is amazing what a little bit of fuss and the mention of the Education Department can do
September 3, 200816 yr That is so ridiculous. Beaurocracy!!! Good on you for not going. It's like when our school decided that all students should wear "rugged shark" shoes ($150 a pair) as the new uniform code. I was soooo mad. Not all people can afford that sort of thing and it is sort of saying you HAVE to pay $150 for another pair of shoes when you have a perfectly good pair. So I wore my "cheap" pair to school and was prepared to have a go at them if they even looked at my shoes wrong! Grrr, sometimes schools don't care about the families and only care about their image.
September 4, 200816 yr With t he wheel chair I know that they need to think of Fire safety so him being at the back would be the reason for that ( happened at Talia's Preschool ) so it wouldn't block any aisles or what ever ... BUT that is only 1 of the LIST of things. I would make sure in that letter that you shouldn't have to pay the price for other parents not paying ELECTIVE school fees. Yep this topic has got me very HOT HEADED Av - I think that I will just read for now on and not type as I will add for fuel to the fire so to speak
September 4, 200816 yr I understand that it costs a lot to hire the venue etc, but I think it's a rip off that you have to pay for tickets for your kids that are actually IN the concert! We just had my son's concert last weekend and the tickets were $15 for adults and $10 for siblings or seniors/pensioners etc but the performers absolutely did NOT have to pay and all the costumes were provided by the school. It was a great concert but I silently breathed a sigh of relief that he is my last one in Primary school and we don't have to sit through any more of them Oh I should have kept on reading before I posted!I'm with you Denise - I would tell them to stuff it too! Good for you! Edited September 4, 200816 yr by Smudgie
