Posted August 22, 200816 yr Hey all just wanted to see your thought on this... Giving budgies to much protein - can cause damage your birds insides - SO an Amino acid should be given to help the emzines in the birds to help prevent the damage I can't remember what part it damages ) But the protein should be 20% no more of their diet?? Thoughts please
August 22, 200816 yr that is very true in any animal, I do believe aviary budgies that move around more should have more protein just like dogs that are very active and working. Too much protein can cause kidney damage.
August 22, 200816 yr I agree. I give my budgies boiled eggs in their soft food and that's about it for protein. I've heard some breeders say they've given meat (as in cooked chicken) but I'm a bit wary of that 'cause it's so far off what they'd have in the wild. In fact, while on the meat subject, I also heard that one breeder fed his show budgies meatmeal but stopped 'cause the hens went troppo and started attacking their chicks ...
August 23, 200816 yr haha. mad cow disease. But seriously: Amino acids are what makes up protein. When protein is ingested, it gets broken down into its amino acids. So by giving more amino acids, in theory you are just giving more protein. It's enzymes. Edited August 23, 200816 yr by Sailorwolf
August 23, 200816 yr Author It's enzymes! Yep that is what I meant .... I couldn't read my hand writing from my notes
August 24, 200816 yr Having dealt with a little fellow with gout, the vet said that too much protein is a major culprit in gout. He wasn't drinking port so we can rule that out! I was wondering where he would have got his hands on that much protein but then I remembered that when they had some babies, Chester was absolutely crazy for the egg and biscuit mix and he used to eat it up as soon as my son put it out.
August 24, 200816 yr Author From things that I have read and been told that the Protien on the Budgies diet should be in the range of 10 - 20% depending on Breeders and etcThis is a % of what is in the seeds Seed------------Carbohydrates----- Fats-----Proteins--------Salt & Minerals Canary seed--------56.0------------6. 1---------15.1--------------2.1 Millet---------------59.8--------------3.7----------11.1--------------3.1 Linseed------------22.3--------------34.2---------21.5--------------5.6 Oats---------------59.7---------------4.9----------10.4---------------2.8 Edited August 24, 200816 yr by Neat
August 24, 200816 yr Author Bits of it - When it is breeding and winter season I will increase their seeds with added sunflower seeds and oats - But I am just learning about all the excess protein and etc .. Maybe a few more experienced members may have some views
