Posted August 16, 200816 yr Hey all Just wanted to know if there were any people out there they do self defence? Dave thinks I may need it LMAO , especailly when he does night shifts . What do you do ??? and does it work? Will I remember what to do if i need to KUNG FU PANDA anyone?
August 16, 200816 yr I reckon you'd be able to talk anyone out of attacking you anyway Neat ....joking
August 16, 200816 yr ... I did it in high school. It was awsome fun throwing people over your shoulder. I did find it beneficial, but the only bits I remember are to get them where it hurts... eyes, face and privates (hard!)
August 16, 200816 yr I think the main thing you will get from self defence lessons is confidence. A personal alarm or a spray of deoderant in the eyes is just as effective
August 16, 200816 yr I don't do contact defense, but I am learning a defensive art of a sort - le parkour. It is the art of getting from point A to point B in the quickest route possible - even if that means going over fences, scaling walls, leaping, vaulting and landing on objects. The idea is that in a rescue or escape situation, you will be able to do it as fast as you can. It's like gymnastics and running in one - and mainly in an urban setting. It sort of has two faces - Parkour is 100% about efficiency - flips and trying to show off fantastic moves with no purpose are frowned on. Like you wouldn't do a flip if you were trying to rescue someone. When you add flips, aesthetics and just plain looking cool into the equation, it is called freerunning instead. (And then if you have the cool moves on their own without running, it's simply called tricking). It looks like this - http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=6qhgIdP3l3I Melbournites might find this familiar... http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=DuHDAwhUQ_A It's great for fitness, motivation, confidence and has a good purpose too. It really changes your perspective of the world and your own boundaries - both external and internal. Edited August 16, 200816 yr by Chrysocome
August 16, 200816 yr Author LOL, I did have other thoughts to scare them away, But i can't post them here I might go with Denise and talk their ear off LOL ...... I really couldn't be bothered to tell you the truth I have confidence when dave is with me and the Dogs LOL ....
August 16, 200816 yr Hey MB, I use to take lessons in the city, but I just don't have the time to go there these days. They're a group that teaches beginners and goes through the basics each week. There's one in every state capital I believe. I was so unfit at the time that I'd be incredibly, unbelievably sore for about 5 days after, lol. It's amazing just to watch those guys when they have their 'jams', flying through the streets (and over any walls and obstacles on it) with ease. These days I practice on whatever I find on my jogs and with a friend of mine at uni, we have some really good 'training equipment' aka benches, low walls, gates and horse yards (when there aren't any animals in it of course!). August 16, 200816 yr Author I gave birth to a 9pound 12 ounce Boy with NO DRUGS ... Mate I can find that interal force. But doing something like that . Well Umm, I'll keep dreaming, It looks like a heap of fun
August 16, 200816 yr I did Ju jitsu up until recently. I quit because I did my neck in and had way too many injuries. Including a badly sprained ankle, elbow, rotator cuff injury and neck injury. It is a very good sport and kept me very fit and gives you heaps of confidence. I can flip full grown men over my back and I'm only little. The reason why I got injured is I probably went too hard for my size. I do miss it.
August 17, 200816 yr Neat I did 7 years at ITF Teakwon-Do. My school was Bai Rui ITF Taekwon-Do I reached 2nd Dan Black belt and held the International Instructors Plaque Number 201038 from Italy. I ran three clubs. Two on the Sunshine coast and one at Narangba just north of Brisbane. The school is very good. Master Charles Birch is the Master Instructor. It is non Contact. I don't know if there is a club near you as i've dropped out at the beginning of last year to concintrate on the birds. But I can highly recommend it to everyone from 5 years old to 60 years old.
August 17, 200816 yr Daz, Very impressive - Second Dan is a long dedicated journey!!! My hubby is a red belt with black tip in World Teakwon-Do, but has done his ankle and shoulder in when he was thrown badly and has had to quit He really misses it too. I hope you find something you like as even though its hard at first, it gets REALLY addictive once you get into it! Edited August 17, 200816 yr by **Liv**

August 18, 200816 yr I should have tested for my 3rd but that would have been the end of last year. Neat Self Control has a lot to do with Self Defence.
August 18, 200816 yr Author I am learning to control my self ... But it's hard when there is Chocolate Thanks guys for your input -
August 19, 200816 yr http://www.wingtsun.com.au/ This could be for you. Also to reduce the control that chocolate has over you try the following. Abstain from chocolate from new years day till easter day. Then on easter day gorge yourself on nothing but chocolate for the whole day, as much as you want, no limits, until you are sick from it if you so desire. You will then eat it in moderation for the rest of your days. This works with cornchip addictions too. The key is to abstain for a set period of time. This is a goal and to get it out of your system. Then your body won't know what hits in when it has chocolate again, especially in unlimited quantities. Warning, do not do this with alcohol, it really, really hurts and the hospital staff will have no sympathy for you! Edited August 19, 200816 yr by DrNat
