Roxy Will Not Eat Seed

okay .. I am not experienced in this But i do have a few suggestions ....

How long did you leave roxy in the cage for??

Could you take tweety out for a day and see how She goes with Runt ....?

i only left them for 1/2 hour because i felt sorry for Tweety. Everytime he tried to get on a perch Runt would fly at him and knock him back to the floor. I am also worried that it will change Tweety and Runt if i seperate them, when Roxy is not with them they are great together, they both talk and sit in the cage and say hello to each other. I also know i need to do what is best for Roxy but i am worried that if i put her with another bird than i would lose the bond that we have. Tonight when they were out for free play together Roxy was following Runt every where and even letting him feed her and preen her. I know it sounds really stupid but i felt sad that she would rather be with Runt then me.

Oh Deb .....

How are you going to feel when your boys grow up and move in with their Friends or Girlfriends?

I understand about loosing that bond - I am scared about that with Princess.

But it must be hard as you raised Roxy from the egg ...

I am sure that an hour free play with the Boys ( tweety & Runt) Roxy won't loose your bond ...

It is good to hear that She is letting him feed her, But I am not sure if that is a good thing ( REALLY NOT SURE ) the experts should have an idea ( IF THEY WERE ON HERE :) ) she isn't eating seed on her own but allowing the others to feed her - This is the part that I am not sure of. as you are trying to wean her ...

I hope that I haven't gotten you  confused ( i tend to do that to myself often LOL )

:D I am no sure what i will be like when the kids Neat start to leave home but i have 4 so it will be a long time before they are all gone. Roxy is eating seed on her own but i am concerned that she does not eat alot of it and wondering should i stop giving her soft mix which i give to her in a container that she feeds herself.

You know, you could try telling Runt off when he goes to attack Tweety. Let him know it is NOT okay to do that. Birds can be trained just like dogs can. Every time he goes to beat on Tweety, bash the cage. Then he'll learn that beating up Tweety causes scariness. It's what I do. I bash the cage if my budgies are being naughty, like having fights. It stops them and makes them forget what they are doing.

Once happened to me , when for some reason Robbie just decided to beat up his sister. She had been doing nothing and he just continued to chase her around and land on her and bite her, so I had to go out there and shake the cage. He stopped and they were fine.

Had a brain wave last night !

If you put Veggies on a plate and your favorite meal on a plate.

Which would you choose?

Maybe that is what is going on with Roxy - She will eat what she needs, try not giving her the soft stuff, But replacing

it with Veggies and fruits???

Thanks Neat, i have been thinking today that i should change the soft mix to a mashed egg with veggies mixed in but i have never given eggs to my budgies so how do i make it up. do they eat the yolk and white. i have tried giving her veggies but she just throws them out of the container and then sits in the container.

Worth a try Deb. I hard boil my eggs, and then put them and veggies into a blender to mush them up together. I put the whole egg... shell, whites and yolks. You could also try adding some of your soft mix to it... as it will have a taste she knows. If you blend it all up she may be more inclinded to eat it rather then dispose of it?!?! :D

Fantastic Advised Maes. I blend mine up too :D

When it comes to cooking my eggs :D I put them in the microwave .

I crack the eggs into the bowl, whisk it up with a fork, then cook it for about 1.5 - 2 mins ( depends on the Microwave)

1/2 way through i give it another whisk, and then BAM Instant scrambled eggs :P:D :D

Then i add that ( once cooled ) and a few others like Carrots, and spinach to the mixer ( blender) give it a blast for a few seconds then I add my corn and peas -

How's Roxy's new diet going? Any more luck Deb?

i make up mashed egg with grated vegies every 2nd morning for her, she eats a lttle bit of it but is still not keen on it.Every other morning i give her vegies and she is starting to eat more of them. she is eating more of her millet spray but still only eats a little bit of seed. I give her rearing food at night if it looks like she has not eaten alot of her vegies and seed during the day, which is still nearly every night. She is so funny, yesterday i was outside working on the aviary and did not come inside till 6pm, she normally gets her soft food at 5pm so Roxy was not happy about having to wait. She was in her cage sitting on the door calling out to me and when i opened the door to give her the food she came flying out and landed in the container and started eating.

I think she must be hanging out all day for her soft food. Here is some latest Roxy pics, she is still very scruffy looking compared to the other babies.

Oh she is beautiful Deb I just love her coloring and the fact that she doesn't have the usual black barring on her head she has turned into a beautiful little girl.

She is so beautiful .....and she looks to be a decent size too. Good luck with getting her to eat better.

Sweet Deb. As Kaz said, she looks healthy so I guess she's getting what she needs. I hope you have more luck with getting her to eat more seeds. :D

Tee hee, She is sweet. She probably doesn't know how to preen herself as no other bird has taught her. I hope you can figure out how to home her with the other two.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

Look at her now :budgiedance: :oliveb: :dbb1: :D :D :D :D :D

She looks sooooo good

I want chickens too mate, But I know they won't last long around here

I thought i would give a progress report on my stubborn girl Roxy. She is still not eating much seed. During freeplay Runt and her spend alot of time together and she sometimes lets him feed her so i thought i would try to put the 2 together in a cage and see if she would learn how to be a budgie from Runt. The first day went well and she would watch him eat and then go and eat a little. Then she decided it was more fun to pick the seed out of the container and throw on the floor of the cage. On the second day she became lethargic and stopped eating. She started doing black runny poos and was sitting in the corner of the cage fluffed up. She really scared me so i seperated her from Runt and gave her some rearing food which she started eating straight away. Within a couple of hours her poos had gone back to her normal colour and she was sitting up on her perch happily chirping away. Now i am giving her seed and vegies which she eats a little bit and mashed egg with rearing food mixed in. I have tried giving her the egg without the reaing food but she will not touch it. If i do not give her the egg mix at night her poos are watery the next day so she needs her egg mix. It looks like I am going to always have a very fussy girl. Only problem is her feathers are still not looking good but i hope that will improve with her first moult. she is 4 months old now and has still not gone through a moult. Is that normal?

This sounds so odd to me. 4 months old and still not weaned... a budgie will eat when hungry, that's how the bubs learn to feed themselves when weaning.

Is there any chance that she could have some sort of mental disability that stops her from knowing how to take care of herself :D
