Well I did it and all by myself to ;)

I turned this birds048.jpg

in to this birds064.jpg

It's certainly NOT a work of art but I think it will to the trick

and just in time too, my girls will be out of quarantine by saturday and since they are all in condition (i think) then it will be time for them to meet the guys, lets hope they like it

Well done, though a few questions, and of course suggestions.

You have done well to convert those. i was scetical at first, but I am pleased with what you have come up with.

Can you take a side shot to show us the door?

How can you check the nestbox?

In regard to my last question, what if instead of placing the nestbox in the cage, you drilled a hole and attached it to the side of the cage. If you see the picture I included it is of some wooden cabinets. they did nto come with breeding boxes, so I adpated them. I measured out where the front of the breeding box would go through the wall, I got shelving supports ( a couple of dollars each), attached the shelving brackets with wood glue to the bottom of the breeding box, then attached the shelving bracket to the side of the cage with a wood screw. It meant I could check the breeding box. It is great what you have done, but to check the breeding box morning and night, you would have to lift the breeding box down off the little shelf it sits on. This has the potential to freak out the mother. She may react badly and not return to the nest box. that would be a tragedy.

What you have is good now, I just think with a small adaptation you can reduce any possible problems.

I think your right, i had wondered about the placing of the boxes cause i would have to move them to clean out the cage. Well i guess I will be testing my skills some more, thanks for you advice ;)

You have done a brilliant job!!! It looks fantastic ;)

My only (adding to Dave's comments) suggestion would be to stand it on something as budgies don't like to be at ground level - about 1 food off the ground is all you need :o

Thanks Liv, I have some rearranging to do first and i am going to put it up off the ground but need hubby to help, I tried to make the holes in the side to put the boxes on the outside but my drill is playing silly buggers so have to go get some new drill bits, i must say i had alot of fun doing it

You can use a jig saw to cut the holes. A door handle hole cutter drill bit thing will work too ;)

You have done a lovely job ;)

My suggestions are the same as others....nestbox fitted to outside and raise up off the floor. So I have nothing to add.

BUT if you have trouble cutting a round hole for the nestboxes draw a square that emcompasses the hole in your nestboxes....drill into each corner of the square and jigsaw it out. A square is fine if it goes into the round hole already on the nestboxes. Thats is, of course if a square is easier for you than another round hole :o

Great job! You must feel proud ;) I agree with the others suggestions too.

AWESOME !!!!

Job Well done, Yep agree with the others now that it was mention LOL, I didn't even see the nestbox LOL

a couple of the girls will be moving in on the weekend, heres hoping they like it

thanks for the advice everyone:D

Looks BRILLIANT!! well done :P

You will get lots of spilled seed fall out the front. If you nailed some wood or clear perspex strips (about 5 cm wide) at the floor level of each section, it should help keep some of the mess in :)

Looks fantastic, you've done a wonderful job. Give yourself a pat on the back.

I agree with Liv about the seed spillage though.

AWSOME!!! Good on you for taking on changes suggested and you have done a great job. You should be very proud and I'm sure your hens will love them! :D

Looks great :D

I have trays with a front on them to stop seed spillage..........but it still doesnt LOL

I was going to fit sliding glass sections to the front of my new breeder cage units, BUT then I realised most of the debris comes out of the cage when they fly in the cage...flap their wings and spread the husks out into the air :D

Budgies just are..........MESSY!! LOL

There is a door at one end that you can use to clean the cage out.

You can see it if you look back at the pics
