Posted August 3, 200817 yr I picked this hen up the other day and though the photo doesn't show it clearly she is a bright violet/purple colour. Can you tell me what she is please? Sorry about the photo she is not crazy about being photographed. I will try and get a better picture when she calms a bit more. I also picked up this little boy. After looking through all the colour mutation topics I think he might be a dom pied something or rather...I'd appreciate being corrected. I also have some babies that I'm not sure of...I think this is a lutino hen? Though you can't see it in the photo she does have red eyes. And I think this little one is a something cinnamon wing. Please feel free to correct me as the right info is always preferred. Thanks
August 3, 200817 yr Violet opaline Dom pied spangle (maybe cinnamonwing but a little hard to tell from the photo Lutino L Skyblue cinnamon spangle.
August 3, 200817 yr Violet Opaline Hen Dom pied spangle Cock Yellow is a Lutino , Then a Opaline yf2 & Green spangle Baby looks like a YF Violet spagle
August 4, 200817 yr Actually I think that No is a Ress Pied ... I am fence sitting now :hap: P.S is that baby in the nest one that you bred??? Very nice
August 4, 200817 yr Violet opaline Cobalt YF2 spangle recessive pied, could be cinnamon by how light the markings are. Lutino Cobalt spangle, either greywing or cinnwing, any front on pics?
August 4, 200817 yr Violet Opaline HenDom pied spangle Cock Yellow is a Lutino , Then a Opaline yf2 & Green spangle Baby looks like a YF Violet spagle Agree Agree (although yellowface as well) Agree yellow face cinnamon spangle The pied is hard to pick but i would lean to dom. pied. There is a lot of body colour and the markings are high up on the wings. True answer will show around 6 months when an iris ring appears or not.
August 4, 200817 yr Author Thanks for your replies everyone. It's a learning curve for me with every word I read. Just another question...What is with the white iris ring? I don't quite understand what you mean and I'm definitely not sure what to look for. Does someone have a picture in comparison to a normal eye and does it mean the pied bird is only young if he doesn't have it, if that's what he is? Thanks for your patience with my ignorance. I had another look through the mutation guide to see if I could see a difference but I'm not sure what I'm looking at so it was a useless endeavour...sorry! And Neat...yes, the baby in the nest is one that I bred. Her parents are in the back ground with the lutino.
August 4, 200817 yr is it just me or does the pied look yf2 mauve? I agree it looks mauve not cobalt Nice birds you picked up , congrats
August 4, 200817 yr Yes definitely mauve and I would say most very likely a dom pied, with the obvious yellowface. Maybe even cinnamon.
August 5, 200817 yr yeah mouve would suit for that little one. What is with the white iris ring? I don't quite understand what you mean and I'm definitely not sure what to look for? Iris ring is a white ring in the birds eyes that appears around 6 months of age. a dominant pied gets this ring but a recessive doesn't which is a great way to check. No ring due to age of the budgie. Dom pied but ring comes later. Ring *Pictures of Kaz's birds* Edited November 13, 200816 yr by KAZ
August 8, 200817 yr Author Thanks for the pics, I can see the difference really well now. I'll keep an eye (no pun intended) out for the iris ring. They told me when I bought him he was only young so going on that I should have a few months before I see anything, is that right? I'll update when I can.
August 8, 200817 yr If he is one that will get an irsis ring it should come around the 4 - 6 month mark ( these will be a grey color)
August 15, 200817 yr Author Hi there, just another question about the iris ring. When I was transferring Billie and Oscar to the retirement cage yesterday I happened to notice Oscar's eye and was wondering if I would be right in thinking he has an iris ring...or am I just seeing things in my ignorance. No biggie if it's not just wanted to work on my 'how to tell the difference' lesson. I hope this photo shows it properly. If I am right what exactly does that make him as he was classed as a greywing? Will any of his and Billie's babies develop it?
August 15, 200817 yr yes he has a iris ring. his type will get a ring as will most of the types. sorry i'm not sure which if your birds is Billy so I can't comment about the offspring.
August 15, 200817 yr i think the verry first picture you first posted is a cobalt opaline not a violet its colour intensity isnt enough to be a violet its a cobalt to me and your pied is a mauve. nice colours i must add verry colourful cheers joel
August 16, 200817 yr top line is cobalt the bottom is violet. To my eyes they violet matches more than cobalt.
