August 7, 200816 yr Argg, doing it off the top of my head from memory (and getting mixed up with rabbits) little Y and circle is most likely male. If you press gently just above the circle it will probably pop out (be VERY gentle )
August 7, 200816 yr Sorry MB, but... no. lol. I used to breed the little fellas too. Females have the little Y shape and males have a butt hole and a dot for their prepuce Female Male Here is the website it is very good: Sexing guinea pigs

August 7, 200816 yr This topic has become very interesting . You learn something new every day hey!?!?
August 7, 200816 yr Author Thanks all for your help!!! This is awesome. Princess Beibei is a girl and Tuck is a boy- the girls are happy... I've been busy building ramps and houses and verandah's for their inside and outside enclosures.. between the playing with them.. Allysa(4) has now even got a smallish guinea pig cage for play dates with Tuck in her room. Of cource with her own little brushes- and we've been making at least 3 trips to the vegi garden a day now just for the guinea pigs- thinking I may need to start planting more as they love their vegies... Does anyone know what to use to bath them? Princess Beibei has longish hair and I read(I've hired 6 Guinea pig books out from the library and 2 kiddy ones for the girls too) to use Anti Dandruff shampoo for them- but that seems a bit odd so I thought I'd post on here and ask advice and check on the net before trying it!! Thanks again Everyone- I seem to be spending as much time with the lil piggies as I do with my birds now.. And Penny still loves the birds even though she is too little to have one yet.. She wanted to see all the babys in the Aviary and today she got to cuddle some too!!
August 7, 200816 yr Just checking do they have seperate cages? They are way to young to be breeding and they can breed young. I used home brand baby shampoo for mine
August 7, 200816 yr Author Just checking do they have seperate cages? They are way to young to be breeding and they can breed young. I used home brand baby shampoo for mine They have 3 cages, 2 inside and one outside for play- the girls sometimes put them in together, but not for long. I do try to keep them seperated though. Tuck is a lot younger than Beibei, he is quite small. But at what age can the males reach maturity? I hear they can have a lot of problems when they breed- and as much as I am looking forward to babys in the future I am not in any rush for that to start. I'll hopefully have my hands full with baby ringnecks this spring so next year would be great for guinea pigs...
August 7, 200816 yr If you want to breed your guinea pigs you have to breed the female before she reaches 7 months old. This is because the female's pelvis fuses around the age of one year. If she has a litter of minipigs before 7 months then her pelvis will not fuse so tightly closed and she can breed in the future. If you breed her after her pelvis has fused, she will not be able to give birth. Dystocia (a troubled birth requiring assistance) will occur and she will need to have a caesarian section. Guinea pigs lick themselves to clean themselves. So shampoo for dogs and humans is not the best idea. A shampoo for cats is good. This also applies when you use flea powders and stuff. Use cat products.
August 7, 200816 yr Do you know how old they are? SW is right, I used to breed mine first at around six months but they can potentially become pregnant much younger than that which can cause just as many problems as breeding too late. If you use common sense guinea pigs are fairly hassle free to breed but they can have more probems than things like mice because their babies are so developed. I bred for many years and in that time I lost one mum during birth and two babies during a different birth, we would have lost three babies but my clever mum gave one mouth to mouth and saved it! Also something to keep in mind, ifyou decide not to go down the breeding path you could get your boy desexed and then they could live together all the time Edited August 7, 200816 yr by melbournebudgies
August 7, 200816 yr I have a shed of Guinea pigs that I keep to eat all the garden weeds & household scraps & then their manure is amazing for the garden. I don’t fuss over them & they are kept together all the time & young females don’t appear to breed too early as far as I can see, as I have never had birthing problems. As Sailorwolf said though, if they don’t breed by a certain age they are useless for breeding from then on. I gave some to a neighbour & later they didn’t want them any more, I found out they couldn’t breed, they ran with the males all the time, but never got pregnant & died of old age. You must be aware that the minute they have one batch of babies they are highly receptive & will mate straight away, so if you want to control breeding they must be removed from males before they give birth.
August 8, 200816 yr Author Beibei is meant to be near 4 months but they weren'y sure about Tuck- he's much younger. So I'm thinking I should start putting them together in a month or so if she is to have babys before 7 months. I don't want her to die because I waited too long... Going to do more research- as I tend to stress too much... Thanks All!!!

He's loving the Vegi Garden and The girls just keep picking stuff for them! The came along to Playgroup last week and they had the best time.
