Well the other day I took my Guinea pig Gina to the Vet two days ago, because of a red bulge that was coming out the corner of her eye, she said it was very unusall for a Guinea pig to get Cherry eye which is what she said it was. It was either she had Cherry eye or a tumor so either way they have to do surgery, and as she's a small animal theres a higher risk of losing her under the anaesthetic. but we have to see another vet to see if she can take the anaesthetic first.

But I was in tears because what would happen if she did past on, what would happen to Kim her sister.

Thankyou I need a friend right now

If it makes you feel better I think the little guys are often some of the toughest. The vet I worked for up north used to operate on rodents a lot including on a rat of mine to remove a breast cancer and they always bounced back quickly so hopefully everything should go well :D

I can totally relate to your situation! Just last week I was in a panic as my very light 10 yr old rabbit had to go under a light anasthetic to have some stuff checked out, I was ample with the vet that if he didn't have a high chance of making it out of it he was not to go under :)

Sometimes you take these risks and they pay off, I know for my boy it did, he came out of it within no time at all and I was over the moon, good luck :) I hope it all works out for you as it did for me!

I used to breed guinea pigs and sometimes the boars would fight and bite each others eyes amongst other things and sometimes the eye would get infected. Sometimes they accidentally scratch their eyes with their fingernails too. We used to put diluted betadine on it to heal it and it worked in most cases.

My Guinea pig are sows

Sows will still have the occasional tiff. But her being a sow has nothing to do with what drNat said.

Often hay can poke them in the eye and that can become infected or cause inflammation. Cherry eye is when the glands under the third eyelid prolapse and become inflamed.
