Charlie Marlo's Bird

That is great news that Charlie is doing really well :)

Personally I think his wings are fine - I don't like to leave the long feathers as they can get tangled in the cage wire and normally end up all messy.

I hope you have the best fun buying toys for him. My birds favorite toys are, clothes pegs, pony beads threaded on stainless steel wire, raffia threaded through plastic practice gulf balls etc. Also they love the rings and swings. There is no need to spend a lot of money - they are a bit like babies, give them an expensive toy and they would much rather play with the box hahaha :D

Thanks Liv I think his wings are fine too. Well we have not had time to go to the shops. Also I can't play with him much because I'm stuck with this massive project on the olympics :) !!! It is driving me mad!!!!!

Well Neat I can't have charlie sit on my shoulder anymore because he will fly off!!!!!!! :) which is really upsetting!!!!! But anyway how can I get charlie to stay put?

perhaps you could try having a little dish of his favourite food on the desk or table with you while you're doing your homework... food always keeps them interested! He could just rummage around on the table with you, and nibble when he wants, or you could offer some to him in your hand.

Well CaspersRose it isn't a very good idea to have the food on the desk because he stands in his food and makes a huge mess!!!

Sounds to me like your Charlie is just like my baby Molly.... a real mess maker. :)

Does he like Millet Sprays? If so, you could have one of those pegged to your shoulder. He'll sit there and nibble it and hopefully stay. You will however get husks down your top but these can be simply cleaned up :D

Hehe... perhaps it isn't such a good idea then! It IS hard to teach a budgie to clean up after themselves!!!!!

Yes he is a bit of mess maker!! LOL!! only because he stands in his food!!!

You need a budgie playgym :)

That's a good idea. I recon that would make a world of difference! Maybe members with particularly nifty playgyms could post some photos so Marlo can see what you're referring to?

Hey Marlo. I built this play gym last weekend for my newly breed babies. They are getting used to it and don't mind exploring it. I used things I had at home, so maybe you can do the same B) Yours wouldn't have to be that big, just something Charlie can be fed on and play on.

All I can say is WOW!!!!! That is really good!! I wish I had stuff like that to build a ply gym. I will have to go to our local hardware and buy stuff. What stuff did you use maesie?

Thanks B) . I used natural wood/branches from my garden (gum tree, bottlebrush etc... Native plants). I also used UNTREATED Pine, rope and some toys I already had. You can use anything which is budgie safe and it's great fun too. I have also put some leaves from my native trees on there to and they love to eat them. Also, if you have a special place where you can offer him treats, this is where you can give him millet or his veggies etc...

Oh okay, How can you tell wheather it is budgie friendly? What sort of rope do you use? the plastic sort or the other kind?

Hey Marlo, Click here for toxic and safe plants(for natural branches) The rope I use for perches is either natural (untreated) hemp or cotton. I don't use the plastic ones or ones that are treated. You just have to be careful to cut off any loose threads as they appear, especially as Charlie WILL chew it and LOVE it :D As for other things... you can use natural icypole sticks, pony beads, natural raffia, paddy cake paper pans... the list is endless. If you have some things you'd like to use, maybe write them down here and we'll give you a yes or no. For Charlie, you could make something simply to begin with and then add to it as you go.

Charlie has had new toys and loves them! he will hang upside down swing around. he'll hang upside down on his swing and will swing around in cirlces!LoL.

Can budgies get dizzy? Also he'll be on the bottom of his cage and he will run around like mad!LOL!!!! Also charlie is definately a boy! I know that because ha can half wolf whistle and he meows also he'll make kissing noises!!!

I have a concern about my baby boy! Everytime I pick him up it sounds like he's sneazing and whenever you go near him he makes the noise! Should I be worried?

Hi Marlo,

Charlie sounds like he is doing really well.

in regards to the sneezing, does he have and darkish stains or signs of moisture in the feathers above his cere? if not then there is no reason to be concerned about his sneezing.

He sounds like a playful critter :)

Sneezing can also be related to Allergies - So if he doesn't have staining above his cere - Check to see what is around him.... Like Plug in Air fresheners, Incense or Oil burners, Fly Spray, Hair spray etc etc etc ..... If he is sneezing when out side there may be something that is setting him off out there?

Keep enjoying your little boy All the best

Hi Marlo. It's nice to here from you again. He sounds like such a dag :) A real character I say. I wouldn't worry about this playful behavior. It's exciting that he is wolf whistling. Are you going to teach him to talk? Good luck and I look forward to hearing about this. I agree with Liv about the sneezing. Is he showing any other signs out of the ordinary??? Pooy bum, underweight etc...???

You have been given some good advice to review and check on Charlie, I just wanted to say WOW you are so lucky to have such a playful little guy at the rate he is going he will be talking with you not even trying :).
