I'm a little confused and I'm hoping some of you here can help me. I have a birds in my aviary which are what is called violet such as this one:

In this case the coloured is definately overlayed onto a cobalt background.

However at the last club night birds were classed as violet which were the same colour as my scruffy little hen :

In this case the violet seems to occur on it's own with no blue colouring behind it. Can anyone tell me how I can get more the same colour as her?

The violet is intensifier of color. so to speak so you have your light, medium and dark violets ..

Visual and masking you can still tell they are violets - look at their feet, their neck , and near their tail ..

But i don't know anything, so some else will tell ya :P

Due to her being fallow it washes alot of the colour out. I have a violet fallow who i'll get some pictures of for ya :P

Well you can get basically visual violet of all types

Sky visual, cobalt visual and Mauve visual, then you get birds that carry it but aren't visually it, i'll get some photo's of all of these to show you :P

The ones at the club I wouldn't have even said were a sky visual, they wre the same colour as scruff, like there was no blue behind it at all

Fallows naturally have diluted out body colour, to tell if she's a true violet take a picture of her rump, it should be violet

I new it was a mistake posting that photo, the question is not about her colour as I get that she is washed out. There were normals and opalines at the club with the same washed out violet colouring, that is what I am asking about.

Well in that case it's not normal for them to have such a light body colouring.

I'd be interested to see these birds also. It doesn't sound normal

Neat that was what I was thinking a dilute violet and your explanation of violet was correct it is an added factor just like grey so you can have a green bird that is carrying the violet gene too.

I think skys rump is that colour of the top picture, i think
