Posted July 21, 200816 yr I was hoping I would get a DF spangle out of my last clutch but no such luck. Just pulled my two new chicks out of the box and I'm pretty sure one has plum eyes, does that mean DF spangle? I hope so, if it does that one will be staying with me
July 21, 200816 yr Plum I believe means recessive pied or cinnamon, but I see Kaz is on here too so she will confirm.

July 21, 200816 yr Author Damn, now I'll have to wait and see. The chick in question is only about four days old but those eyes seem to be a few shades lighter than the other chicks and you can see the pupil very bright under the skin, does that sound like plum?
July 21, 200816 yr plum = cinnamon or recessive pied bright red or red = ino (which I knew you knew) I don't think there is anyway you can determine a double factor spangle when they are first born.
July 21, 200816 yr One of my chicks from the spangle i paired had plum eyes and Daz mentioned that df spangles can start with cinnamon eyes that develop to black as they get older . My chicks has ended up having white wings and head with a light blue colour in its chest.i hope you get a df spangle, i was hoping to breed one and didnt.
July 21, 200816 yr If it was a DF Spangle that was also carrying Cinnamon it could have Plum eyes. What are the parents MB both Spangles?

Deb a picture of that bird would be interesting, if it started out with Plum eyes & then turned out the colour you say, I think it would be worth us having a look at it. Sounds a bit like one of Daz’s DF Melanistic Spangles. Edited July 21, 200816 yr by Norm

July 21, 200816 yr Author Parents are both spangles, no visible indication that either has cinnimon or anything else so if it turns out to be a cinnimon chick then my boy must be split for it.
July 21, 200816 yr I have taken some quick photos of your birds Deb, hope these are okay! Deb's other baby!
July 21, 200816 yr The first one looks like a hen Spangle, the second looks like a male, I guess that is the one you were explaining Deb, but it’s hard to see enough of it in that picture to make any comment on it. Thanks for the pictures Jenene.

Thanks for the pictures Jenene. I started my own topic with pics of the one i am talking about it. Sorry MB for jumping into your topic with pics of my birds.
July 21, 200816 yr Author It's cool, I am interested from the perspective of workikng out what mine are anyway
July 22, 200816 yr It's cool, I am interested from the perspective of workikng out what mine are anyway I agree with MB… we should try to keep to a persons topic as far as possible, but life isn’t that clear cut & one thing develops into another & some of the most interesting topics develop from one particular topic which soon brings up even more interesting things, so it’s good to follow up. . As maybe the case if Melbourne Budgies bird if in fact it turns out a DF Spangle as she thought. I heard from a top show breeder that they breed Cinnamon into their DF Spangles to improve the feather. I don’t think there’s a class for Cinnamon Spangle only Normals so you would have to keep two different lines.
July 22, 200816 yr MB- if both are spangle there is a chance that is is a DF spangle. as daz has stated sometimes they can have a plum looking eye. best to wait until the pin feathers start to open before getting too attached
July 22, 200816 yr this is getting very interesting to read there is a 50% chance of DF Spangle % 50% Single
July 23, 200816 yr Sorry everyone I was having a "blonde moment" - I took photos of the wrong bird! Hope these pics are what you were after!!
July 23, 200816 yr wow... I know nothing at all about genetics, colours etc etc, but that is a really attractive looking budgie... I could eat it up!
July 23, 200816 yr It's like bubblegum icecream There you go... if you get stuck for a name... Bubblegum, gummy, bubba... !
