Saucy Face decided to go over to Spanky's cage & try & steal his mirror ring bells.

She doesn't like the Spanky. She likes to bite his toes & hurt him.

There be no LOVE between these 2. Time won't help them learn to love. The Spanky wants to be her friend & she wants him off her cage, away from her food & darn it ... STAY AWAY FROM HER MIRROR RINGS & BELLS. (A Saucy Face FATE WORSE THEN DEATH) Don't touch my bells or toys.

Saucy Face is now the bossy cow budgie. Since losing the Weebil, she couldn't care less about sharing anything again. She is aggressive & loud & pushy & wants everything to herself. I will allow this. It's her nature.

Poor Spanky. He will have to love me instead. Should I grow some feathers & a pecker ? ( I mean a beak )

:D:P:D

She is jsut carrying on the Webil tradtion so that she is not forgotten! ;)

In all reality, NN, the bells and mirror and anything that is making her aggressive should be removed at least temporary because though it may be cute and funny it really is not and you may find a Spanky injured one morning when you wake up. Budgies can be nasty and I would hate to not advise you what you could do to change the behavior and something happen to your budgies. I would also take away anything else that is making her protective, rearrange the cage and make sure they are getting at least 10-12 hours of cage cover time.

Very good advice Elly. I have lost a cockbird from a nasty hen who scalped him, and its not a nice thing to find......so anything you can do NN to stop her being so protective would be a good idea.

That has happened to me in the past too :D

I agree, be very careful with her. Perhaps keep them in a separate cage. She might be happier on her own anyway and without the stress of having to defend her "territory" .

Maybe I missed a post somewhere.

So Saucy face was originally paired with a bird named Weebil. Unfortunately he passed away.

You bought a new bird named Spanky. I am assuming you quarantined Spanky for 30 days minimum. In this time, Saucy would have heard him calling out.

Now, quarantine is over, Saucy attacks Spanky, biting his feet and wanting to get at his toys?

Do they share a cage? they are caged when? at night time?

I think everyone is a little confused here.

Saucy & Spanky are not in the same cage. And never have been.

Spanky is safe & sound. Saucy Face acts wayyyyyyyy to aggressively to him while he is in HIS own cage. She tries to bite his toes & body when he hangs on the wires of his own cage to interact with her.

She sees that he has the same toys that she has in her cage, & she tries to steal his toys through the cage bars.

YES .... SHE IS A COW ! A BOSSY LITTLE COW !

She is just as angry when I pay any attention to him & let him out of the cage in the main room where the cages sit. She will scream at me & chatter noisily while hopping around frantic in her cage. So I have to take him in another room to let him have some time out of the cage & enjoy my company without her distractions.

It's odd having such an aggressive bossy bird like Saucy Face. I've never encountered another like her. I like her personality. You can't make it stop though ... she is 4 years old & set in her ways. I can only keep the new bird away from her & let each live near each other & yet separately.

There will be no meetings face to face, out of the cage. Saucy Face has shown she has no interest in having a new toy boy around. In time after Spanky is trained ... I might get him a new buddy friend. We'll see.

Trust me on this, I know what I am doing here. I would never allow Saucy to hurt the Spanky.

GOOD to hear NN, I missed that they were in different cages.

Thanks for the info NickNack. Sorry, I was just a bit confused. Strong personalities occur in all animals, from birds, to dogs, to people. I have a hen named Sebby who definitely thinks she is the boss. She picks on others, and it seems her daughter laverne, who Deb has, takes after her mother.

What beautiful budgies you have. He is such a cutie. It's funny how aggressive budgies can be to each other at times and yet how they can be so sweet natured towards there owners. I was once told that the only bird who is truly monogamist to one partner for life is the vulture. I had a pair of budgies called Oscar and Isabell they were my first pair. They lived in a aviary with 8 other budgies. When Oscar died of liver cancer Isabell passed a week later for no apparent reason. I had all the birds vet checked thinking maybe a disease had gotten into the aviary that the vet had not picked up on during Oscar's autopsy and they all came back clean. I have always put this down to her lonliness. Maybe I'm just being a romantic. lol

There's nothing wrong with being a romantic LisaV, I am all for it & have been touched by the love & yearning animals share with each other. Animals do & can pine for each other. I had a budgie once that was best friends with my border collie. When that budgie died of old age, my border use to lay on the floor under the cage & whine & moan, while glancing up at the cage. It was the saddest thing to see that he missed his little bird friend.

It's so amazing the way animals interact & love & feel for each other & maybe another animal & human. It is a wonder to see !

Sounds like a stressful situation for you...good luck. I had partnering woes awhile back, but the female was the newbie so perhaps had a better outcome than yours sounds. They eventually were able to be placed together.
