August 30, 200816 yr Author Four chicks getting large. Fifth and sixth chick didnt make it out of the eggs. 7th chick today was found...broken open egg.....chick dead. I believe the hen stopped incubating the last eggs. Two eggs left, and in case they were okay they were put in another nest. A chick from another nest.....a only only chick....same size as these ones was fostered into this nest yesterday and they are all well and being fed. So five in this nest now.
August 30, 200816 yr Sad that some did not make it, but good for the ones that did. Looking forward to pics as they start to feather up

August 31, 200816 yr Author Forgot to take pictures today as I was doing work in the new birdroom. The last two eggs that had been fostered to another hen, as it turned out had viable chicks in them...the foster hen threw them out Edited August 31, 200816 yr by KAZ
August 31, 200816 yr Sometimes you just can’t win Kaz…that’s bad luck…never had anything like that happen. Got my first Canary on eggs.
September 1, 200816 yr Author Sometimes you just can’t win Kaz…that’s bad luck…never had anything like that happen. Got my first Canary on eggs. Not to worry Norm...these things happen in bird breeding. At least I know that the young cock can fill every egg with this hen and thats a plus. Next round maybe better :budgiedance: I have a yellow crested canary on eggs in the shrub in Kens aviary. Not sure of the father yet. Edited September 1, 200816 yr by KAZ
September 1, 200816 yr Looks a real nature shot Kaz...not like mine nesting in old Tuna tins...LOL... Yeah he's filling all the eggs that's gotta be a big plus...that's the first thing I look for when getting new birds at least you know you can get somewhere with them. September 10, 200816 yr Author Babies are feathering up. Eldest is green like dad, second is grey green opaline like Mum...others yet to see. The foster baby in the nest is a yellow double factor spangle. Photos as soon as I can find the charger for the camera. Ken has put it away somewhere. One of the parents seems to be plucking a little , so I have replaced the door to the nestbox with a clear glass door and put a block of wood in the nest for them to chew on. They have millet in there.
September 10, 200816 yr Look forward to pics. Thank you for posting what you are doing for the feather plucking. Please keep us informed on that :budgiedance:
September 10, 200816 yr Hey Kaz, nice birds and babies. Just some advice when pairing. Well I think you should pair cocks to those beautiful hens that i love, with power with a lot of feather on head. Much like the hens pair your hens with cocks of the same quality. I think you are pairing gorgeous beautiful hens to not such good quality cocks. The cocks are nice but the hens are too good for them. Well I seem to think that when i see your pairings. I don't mean to offend you, but thats my thoughts. Well good luck and I hope to see the chicks through there first moult. regards Joel P.S love your hens Joel... please stop ignoring staff messages. You need to use punctuation in your posts! You have been warned more than enough times. Edited September 10, 200816 yr by maesie

September 10, 200816 yr I'd have to agree with Kaz here. Can we see some pictures of your birds, pairs and chicks JoEl. I'd love to see the outcomes of your so called 'expertise' you say you have. Your birds too... not photos you copy from the internet!
September 10, 200816 yr The chicks sound pretty Kaz, when you put a block of wood in the nestbox what type of wood do you use and what size?
September 11, 200816 yr I'd have to agree with that Dave. Joel, perhaps only give opinions when they're asked for by the member. Here i think you went out of your way to try to belittle Kaz' selection of birds when to be honest, no one wanted to hear what you had to say.
