I Dont Think Penny Is Albino

Featured Replies

Posted

hi everybody, last nite i read some of the pinned notices of mutations and colours and it got me thinking, so i went to check it out this morning and discovered that Penny my white hen doesn't have red eyes ( she has black with a white iris) and if you look real close she has very light cinnamon spots around her neck ( where a normal budgie has black) so i am no longer thinking she is albino can anyone tell me if i am right and if so what she could be?

Thanks Charlie

post some clear photos. Black eyes mean possibly DF spangle. But the cinnamon can mean lacewing. Lacewings DO have red eyes. Some red eyes are hard to assess in certain light conditions so some new and very clear photos will help us to help you ;)

Hey hope these help abit, had another look at her this afternoon and i think she has some red in her eyes but it is a real dark red, whenever i took pics of her with the flash they came out red so that didn't help any and she also seems to have darker wings to the rest of her body, i feel abit silly that i didn't notice before but they are so faint its ahrd to see it

anyway hope these can clear this up, thanks for your help

She seems to be a poorly marked lacewing hen. Her eyes are red. I recall a lacewing cock I had that was hard to tell with the eyes. The best way to tell is to look at the white of the iris rings on a normal budgie and then look at the iris rings on this budgie. The riis rings on a red eyed budgie or most oftena cream colour where a normals iris rings are quite white in appearance.

So your hen is either a poorly marked lacewing or an albino with cinnamon suffusion. Breeding her with the right birds will tell you for sure.

By the way...she is beautiful :hap:

Thankyou

one more question, what wuld i breed her whith to find out

But remembering that cinnamon can produce plum eyes which appear red on flash (my Bacardi monster). So she could also be a dilute cinnamon (aka cinnamon black eyed self). Can be a mystery with out known the back ground.

I agree with Kaz, if you breed her out you will know for sure if Kaz is right or SW. I thought a black eyed self doesn't have an iris ring hence black eye?

Definatly Ino eyes there, agree with either lacewing or albino.

We need a budgie mutation machine. You go down to your local super market pop the Budgie inside and ping out pops the results :hap:

I suck at mutations but she is very very pretty. :(

I would say a poorly marked lacewing. She doesn't look like my albinos.

Yeah she doesn't look like my albino cock Zac either, a lot have gone with Lacewing so i am going along with that, now i just have to find a lacewing cock here in adelaide (hmmmm should be interesting)

Well everyone, i got on to the breeder of Penny (as it turns out all my girls are from him) and he reckons she is an albino after all, he doesn't breed lacewings so i thinks i will pair her with Zac after all. Thankyou all for your replys anyway, will let you know what happens.

Interesting how some albinos show cinnamon. Did you ask if she has cinnamon in her genetics ? Just out of interest I will show you some albinos that were first second and third at the Budgerigar nationals this year. If you look closely at their pictures you will see cinnamon showing on them also.
