hey, i have a few quick queries about Bing's behaviour, i dont know why he does it but at least once a day he sits there all fine, then he will start twitching and go flying around the cage this goes on for about a minute, is this him getting excerscise or something else? it looks as if he is uncomfortable, also when he is on my shoulder he likes to bite my shirt and he does it the whole time, does anyone have an explanation other than boredom?

It could just be his temperament. You should compare notes with Angelic Vampire, she as a little bloke called Buddy that she got from me who chews and carries on a bit. We reckon he's just your budgie version of a labrador puppy

The chewing is normal budgie behavior - Sew buttons, bells, ropes, beads etc onto an old shirt and watch him go crazy when you ware it

 

Him flapping around in his cage is normal too - like you said, it is him getting some excersise

lots of animals do it - Like a dog when they go crazy running around the back yard for a minuite or two hahaha it looks funny and they get so puffed

I agree with the above statements, Merlin does the same thing that is why it is important for others to understand that the recommended cage size by pet stores is too small because if given a larger cage they will fly around up and down and across. Merlin always bites on my ears, hair, shirt etc...it is a form of preening to them. If they had another budgie they would be preening them but they have you so they do it to us .

well my cage size is larger than the recommended so there isnt a problem there... thanks everyone for your advice

Smokey does the same flapping thing... usually accompanied by loud, unattractive screeching! He also nibbles my ears when he's on my shoulder... he's particularly obsessed with earrings!
