Posted July 7, 200817 yr This is Pumpkin, named because he has bright orange fur under his chin. He is a baby brushtail, probably around 5 months old. He was found on the footpath this morning so cold the person who found him thought he was dead until he moved his mouth. She showed him to me and I took one look at him, felt how cold he was an immediately stuffed him down the front of my singlet, within an hour he was much perkier and he is drinking his milk like a champ :budgiedance: Edited July 7, 200817 yr by melbournebudgies
July 7, 200817 yr Oh Mb, I hope this one pulls through :budgiedance: ----- The past 2 weeks I have seen that many dead possums on the side of the roads its sooo sad!
July 7, 200817 yr Author He is very healthy just lost his mum it seems so all going well he should be fine. Currently he weighs about 190 grams so he's a nice big boy. The one that I sadly lost last week was VERY sick when he arrived and right from the start I didn't think he would make it. I'll admit when he started to perk up I thought maybe I was wrong but sadl my presiction did come true in the end. Edited July 7, 200817 yr by melbournebudgies
July 7, 200817 yr Author Did I mention he's a little smarty. He decided he was on a good thing curled up inside my possum singlet (it has one of those 'hidden support' thingos in it so he can sit in it without falling through) and he's still there, he climbs back in whenevr I try and take him out :glare: I will have to give him the bad news soon that he cant stay there when I go to bed so he'll have to go in his box soon
July 7, 200817 yr Author He's not keen on staying still, very adventurous. He insisted on coming out of his pouch before so I snapped another photo and a little video of him, you can see how shiny and healthy he is :glare: Edited July 7, 200817 yr by melbournebudgies
July 7, 200817 yr That is some cute babie. He was searching for some nippi there. FEED HIM ! HE STARVING ! Good luck with him MB. You're doing great so far !
July 7, 200817 yr He is so cute . We just got satelite tv, so I watch Aussie rescue program with all those cuties
July 7, 200817 yr Author Well he was VERY put out that his new mummy told him he had to sleep in the warm box last night, he spent half the night calling for me I had been told at this age he didn't really need to be fed at night if I didn't want to (ie. I could miss a single feed) but he got a small feed in the wee hours in the hopes of settling him down. He did sleep for a little while but then he wanted mummy again
July 7, 200817 yr Author I figured on not much sleep at the moment with the new puppy as well so it's okay.
July 8, 200817 yr Hey MB, I know of a couple of... 70million possums you can have!!! I love Aussie Animal rescue, we get it over here on Sky (equivalent of Fox, in fact is exact same channels, advertises both Aussie and Kiwi times, cheapos) I want to come over to Aus for a year and work with the wildlife. NZ is sadly devoid of the little fuzzy mammal wildlifes. We aren't allowed to have pet possums here - being they pests and all. I don't think vets are even allowed to treat them apart from euthanasia. If you want a pet one you need a special permit. Not to forget they prey on birds and chicks (almost as bad as rats!). I do like ringtail possums though (we don't have them in NZ)
July 8, 200817 yr Author He has a toy, it's a brown squrrel, if you squint it looks just like a brushtail
