My New Aviary

Hi everybody :D

We have finally finished the outside aviary and moved the birds :P

We took much longer than we planed, as we don't have much time anymore. Mark (my husband) is very busy at work the last couple of months and I take care of baby Benny, as he doesn't like to be left alone :D:lol:

It's not exactly the way I'd like it - Mark wanted to use some of the glass (the frame is a glass house), so he doesn't have so much work with the wire and save money -_- . I hope it's going to be okay, I'm hoping to replace it, but probably not too soon :( That's the main thing I don't like, but at least the roof is also covered with plastic roofing, so it shouldn't break ;) . And the glass is "milky", so they shouldn't hit it.

I thought it would get too hot inside, as glass houses are designed for that, but Mark said that if there is mesh and not all the glass, it doesn't work as a glass house - so I hope he is right

Anyway here are some pics, it's still much better then the aviaries before :D . It's about 3 m long, 2,5 m wide and 1,8 m tall, we've build a safety door on the inside as it was easier, so we had to take some of their space away ^_^ . There is 22 budgies (I've lost some due to mice :( , also my non flying baby Mayo. He died when I was in the hospital giving birth :( ) and 4 tiels. They seem to be okay together, and I'm not breeding, so I think they will be fine.

I still have to give them their toys and natural branches (we only have an old apple tree and the rest is not good for birds, so I will get some pine somewhere :P )

I forgot to take a picture of the sleeping area - it's next to the safety door in the back, I'll take a picture later

Thanks for sharing your pictures they should be happy in there. How is it for them, when you are having the 35c day?

That looks wonderful Zebra. I will bet there's happy chatter going on in there all day ;)

Thanks ;) They love it - it's raining now, so I've opened the part of the roof so they can have a morning shower :rip:

Norm, they were quite hot yesterday, so I've sprayed them and they have a pool on the bottom. I hope they will be okay. It should be cooler now - hopefully.

Oh wow !!!

They look sooo happy and comfy there

looks very nice you have certainly put a lot of hard work and time into making a nice place for your flock.

Looks great!!! They look like they have plenty of room and I bet they love their 'rain' showers!!! Well done. I hope you and Benny are keeping well... Nice to hear from you :P

Hi there

Im new on here.

I just love your aviary did you make it?

Its so big and beautiful. im sure you have lovely healthy birds

I need some info on how to make an aviary with a sheltered inside area and a outside area for budgies. I have 11 at the moment in a pretty good aviary that my dad built.

I will soon get a picture of it on here

thanks :D

Hi and welcome :)

My husband made the aviary. It's made from a greenhouse frame. The birds do love it :D .

Here it was cheaper and easier for us to buy a greenhouse and turn it into aviary then to buy a new aviary, and you don't really get a second hand aviaries here, as people make them most of the time.

We don't have any inside part yet, but we will have to do it before winter as it gets very cold here. But we've covered two sides of the aviary to protect them from wind. I think it's also good to cover the top and make a safety door and the floor is better to make from concrete or something similar, so the mice cannot get in.

Also have a look in the aviary section, there are many pictures of nice aviaries :glare:
