Posted July 2, 200817 yr Just out of curiosity I would like to know the colours or type of budgies my four babies are. Hoping everyone can help and I will endevour to post more pics if any are needed. Bluey Head Shot Bluey Body Shot Terri Head Shot Terri Body Shot Booga Head Shot Booga Body Shot Booga we were told is male but her/him and Bluey have been doing a "special" dance before bluey looks like he is mounting her/him. I am no expert but this is what it looks like Snowy More pics to come Example of Snowys Fantail... I am hoping I can get a picture of snowys though. Snowy I have been told is only about 2 - 3 months old and is pure white apart from cinamin (spelling?) speckles on her/his head) Snowys tail is very interesting and I will try to get a picture of it for you. Snowys feathers are interesting too.. all my birds enjoy a morning shower with a atomiser... and most of the water beads and rolls off. But the only way to explain it is on their soft underbelly feathers, when wet they go all bedraggled... Well Snowys like this all over. I might take a picture tomorrow morning after their morning shower. Just ask if you need further pics but I will try to get them for you Tess Edited July 2, 200817 yr by Tess
July 2, 200817 yr Booga looks like a hen to me and is only a baby so I would be housing her seperatly to Bluey personally. Blue is a skyblue normal carrying violet, Terri is a lutino, booga is a green normal and snowy may be a lacewing by the sound of the speckles, more photos needed
July 2, 200817 yr Hello and welcome I am hopeless with genetics :hap: , but i did notice that Bluey has scaly face and (if he is not already) will need treatment for it as it will start to deform the beak.
July 2, 200817 yr Welcome to the forums, I agree with Liv I see the scaley face too he will need to be treated for this immediately before it gets worse. I also agree with MB about Bluey she is too young to be mating and having a clutch. The recommended age to start breeding budgies is 12 months to about 4-5 years of age depending if it is a cock or a hen.
July 2, 200817 yr Spot on Liv, first thing I noticed with Bluey's picture ... Scaley Face ! I Agree that he is carring Violet , However he looks cobalt Normal cock to me Are Terri's Eyes red - They look black in the picture??? Agree ( If red eyes) that it is a Lutino Hen Agree that Booga is a SHE I think that Snowy is an Albino as there are no Purple cheek patches
July 2, 200817 yr In the full body shot her eyes look black but in the close up they look red so I would say lutino. He could be cobalt as often they reflect lighter than they really are in photos.

July 2, 200817 yr I agree about the lacewing Neat, I think more photos will definately be needed to tell for sure. When I originally said that the bird was sky both photos were bringing up the head shot for some reason so I didn't have the full body photo
July 2, 200817 yr Well, you now know you have a bird with scaly face that needs treatment, A youngster that shouldnt be boogying with Blue, a white and cinnamon budgie that actually IS a lacewing, but poorly marked and maybe not moulted into its colour fully ( just like 5 of my lacewing chicks ) AND.... WELCOME to our forum
July 2, 200817 yr Really Kaz ..... I am sure that a lacewing needs purple cheek patched to classed as a lace wing
July 2, 200817 yr Welcome to the forum Tess...I can't make any comment as for some reason I can't see any of the pictures.
July 3, 200817 yr Author Well, you now know you have a bird with scaly face that needs treatment, A youngster that shouldnt be boogying with Blue, a white and cinnamon budgie that actually IS a lacewing, but poorly marked and maybe not moulted into its colour fully ( just like 5 of my lacewing chicks ) AND.... WELCOME to our forum LOL Thank you for clarifying... I have some more shots of snowy and I have seperated Bluey now as I have read up on some sites about "scaley face" I will get onto that immediatly although I am happy that it is not too far into it... The cage will be geting a decent cleaning today. As for Snowy... Here are 3 more shots I took yesterday. Head Shot Body Shot as you can imagine it is hard to get any clarifty on a white bord... this is the best shot I could do.... But as I said she is pure white (red eyes) except for the speckles on her head . and even those are very lite. Tail (Is this normal or is she cross breed) Also are her furry feathers normal??? (please refer to orginal post) (duh I just reread Kaz's post... will Snowy loose these downy feathers when she moults? I have never owned such a young bird before. Edited July 3, 200817 yr by Tess
July 3, 200817 yr Here is my topic on my lacewing chicks..... http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....lacewing+chicks Libby from our forum owns all these chicks now so maybe she can show you how they all look now for reference.
July 3, 200817 yr SW they show up for me, she has linked them to text so run your mouse over the first word in each line and the link pops up then click and they open a new window. Tess, that tail does look strange but I am no Budgie expert so I will wait to see what the others say.
July 3, 200817 yr Cool, got them now. Booga looks like a boy to me. Blue will happy dance any budgie, boy or girl. Babies don't know how to react to this so they just stand there and let it happen. Snowy may not have her tail feathers fully grown out, or she could have snapped both of them.
July 3, 200817 yr Those tail feathers are only her secondary tail feathers, she hasn't get her primaries like SW said. They hold their tail out like that to help them balance, especially when they are young and still learning.
July 3, 200817 yr Author SaliorwolfThats what I thought too, but seeing as they are supposed to be pets and I was assured they wouldnt breed without a breeding box. I thought it would be okay to mix up the sexes. Also it isnt only bluey doing the happy dance, they both seem to do it together. And then like you said booga just stands there, so I wasnt entirely convinced he was a she. The breeder assured me he was a he, so as you can imagine I am one confuzzeled bunny.as for snowy, he/she (again told it was a he, but who knows yet) even if he did snap his long tail feathers off it still doesnt look right... the others dont have all those tail feathers. Also the other 3 have their wings clipped but I decided against snowy as when I let him/her fly at first she couldnt get purchase (I put this down to being so young) and even now when she goes for a fly she heads straight to the ceiling... like she cant even out her keel....LOL Those tail feathers are only her secondary tail feathers, she hasn't get her primaries like SW said. They hold their tail out like that to help them balance, especially when they are young and still learning.oooh gotcha now.... LOL as I said I havent had such a young bird before....
July 3, 200817 yr I agree, Snowy's tail looks normal to me too, s/he is just still growing the primary feathers
July 3, 200817 yr Well...... There goes my confidence ..... I'm Wrong ...... Sorry MB Tess ..... That is finally my " Mutation Suggestion" ever ...... Just when you think you've got it ....POW .... you don't
July 4, 200817 yr Well if Booga is doing a happy dance. He is more likely to be a boy. I can't tell with Snowy, because he looked like a girl in one picture but a boy in the next!
July 7, 200817 yr Author Well if Booga is doing a happy dance. He is more likely to be a boy.I can't tell with Snowy, because he looked like a girl in one picture but a boy in the next! okay seems snowy might still be very young to be able to tell anything.... Update: Blue is getting twice daily doses of his parafin oil and it seems to be working a treat. Booga is now doing the happy dance with terri (the lutino) so I am convince he is a he
