Posted July 1, 200817 yr These are photos of the 3 babies i have left from my first cabinet breeding. I have been told Roxy is a female but can anyone tell me what the other 2 are. Baby number 1 is a blue spangle but is it cobalt or skyblue. Baby number 2 is Roxy and i have no idea of her type she has too much blue in the top of her wings to be a spangle. Baby number 3 has white wings but blue on her chest so i did not get a df spangle.
July 1, 200817 yr Unless your adults have pied or clearwing in them I would say she is a DF spangle but with blue suffusion on her chest, does she have any colour on her rump? I love that second one! Defnate spangle markings down on the wing tips but that blue on the wings is weird!!! Edited July 1, 200817 yr by melbournebudgies
July 1, 200817 yr They look lovely i dont know the types, the one with the blue wings looks interesting and i look forward to seeing others replies
July 1, 200817 yr Your Roxy is a spangle but she is also opaline explaining the blue on the top of her wings. Very pretty babies and great photos Edited July 1, 200817 yr by KAZ
July 1, 200817 yr Had a thought is your cock arrying opaline? She could be an opaline spangle. SNAP!! Edited July 1, 200817 yr by melbournebudgies
July 1, 200817 yr Author Thanks for explaining Roxy, i thought she was a badly marked spangle. i do not know the parents background so i was not expecting opaline. Yeah, i just breed my first opaline. The white one has no clour on its rump just a blue tinge to its chest and check patches. Deos anyone know if they are male or female , are they too young to tell?
July 1, 200817 yr Author It is very interesting that i got a opaline spangle because the father has alot of blue marks in his wings and i posted pics of him when i got him asking about the markings and got different opinions about whether he was carrying opaline and some people said that the markings did not show that he was carrying opaline but it looks like he was. This is a photo of the father's markings again. Edited July 1, 200817 yr by deb
July 1, 200817 yr I agree with Kaz, the first is Spangle, probably Sky Blue & the second Opaline Spangle…like some have said before the father must be split Opaline & that was why he was showing the Blue in his wing markings, the third still might be a Spangle but with very light marking, when it gets older would be easier…I’m not going to make a guess on the sexes, even Kaz didn’t have a go.
July 1, 200817 yr Author thanks Neat, i got told Roxy was a female so i thought the others are the same age so someone should be able to tell what they are.
July 1, 200817 yr Me and Kaz told ya female hehe it is pretty easier to tell 99% of the time ... Look at your pictures above, look at their cere's can you see the differences between what i said was a boys and the girl????
July 1, 200817 yr Author Is the shape what you look at, the female's ceres look flat where as the male's ceres are raised, is that correct?
July 10, 200817 yr Shhhh don' tell throwback you bred an opaline spangle he'll be grumpy :fear :hap: What like this! The fact that the cock is a poorly marked Normal Blue Spangle would suggest that he was out off a Opaline nest. And hence split Opaline, but it's not always the case, you can get just poorly marked birds that aren't split! Nice babies deb! Edited July 10, 200817 yr by throwback
