Posted June 23, 200817 yr hey.. im new to this site just thought id post a couple pics of my babys.. the male is named charlie.. i bought him when he was a couple months old, didnt know the sex yet so i named him charlie.. being charlotte if he was a girl or charles/charlie for a boy. i bought a girl a few days ago her name is bella. she looks very similar to charlie.. i was told they like breeding with similar looking birds (is this true?) both birds are around the same age i think.. charlie is stilling gaining the colour on his cere.. its pinkish purple and bella has a brown cere.. both top of head are molting and both still have baby black eyes.. i think they are around a year old (bought them from pet shops, couldnt tell me exact age at purchase) please tell me if you can tell the age from the pics thanks. also anyone who has tips on breeding them would be much appreciated. courtney http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m107/Co...40620081126.jpg charlie and bella http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m107/Co...40620081125.jpg charlie http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m107/Co...40620081124.jpg charlie http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m107/Co...40620081120.jpg bella
June 23, 200817 yr Welcome to the forum. First I see you did not quarantine your new bird from Charlie to ensure their health. Birds must go through a 30 day quarantine before they are introduced even if you know where you go them from and the person. Quarantine means keeping the new bird separate from the existing flock in another cage and another room for a full 30 days (1 month). Second, if you are planning to breed please to your research it is not as simple as throwing in a nesting box and hoping for the best. Plus there are so many homeless pets including birds out there you have to think about what will you do with the babies. A good budgie breeder isn't out there for the profit but for the health of the birds and breeding strong healthier birds. Most budgies will have between 2-5 chicks where will they go? Charlie, his cere per the pics which are not very clear looks very pink and an a recessive pied (his mutation male), his cere will remain pink and not change into blue because of his mutation, his age maybe right around 1 year too. It is hard to tell their age after they have molted out a couple of times so I think the pet shop was probably on target for their age.
June 23, 200817 yr Author thanks for your advice. i didnt kno about the quarantine.. who is at risk her the new bird or the old? is there any point doing it now. seeing as they have already been introduced? i have done a lot of reserch about breeding.. was just wondering about extra tips from people constantly involved with it. i plan to buy an avery before i attempt to breed them.. as to keep most of the birds, although i might decide to sell some depending if any friends are interested. i thought as much about the mutation but i wasnt sure. The existing bird is at risk because the new bird can bring in the illness, I am not sure how long they have been together but it is probably pointless to separate, I would just keep an eye on their behavior and such. i have done a lot of reserch about breeding.. was just wondering about extra tips from people constantly involved with it. June 24, 200817 yr Hi and Welcome You've been given excellent advise thus far and all should be taken into due consideration when breeding Charlie is a YF cobalt/violet recessive pied Bella is a yf sky and something else recessive pied. Do you have any pictures of her wings?

June 25, 200817 yr also anyone who has tips on breeding them would be much appreciated. My tip on breeding would be to wait six months before breeding this pair and before putting a nestbox anywhere near them as they are too young right now.
June 25, 200817 yr Author i was waiting till the summer to breed them anyway, its currently winter here plus i wanted them to get used to each other first, how old do you think they are? wat age is best to start them at? thanks
June 25, 200817 yr Author im not sure of bella's age but i think she's around a year and i bought charlie in august last year.. so 10 months nearly 11 months ago and he was a couple months old then, so he has to be over a year old now. so as soon as its warm here again..
