Posted June 19, 200817 yr We went on vacation last week for anyone who wondered where I was (lol) or saw I was missing. So I am going to download pictures as promised. Anyways, as I am doing so I have others too I wanted to share. Here is our 14y old siberan husky Niketa, enjoying the winter we just came out of. She loves to pull the kids around on their sled and has a harness made just for doing so, you can see the harness on her. Edited June 19, 200817 yr by Elly
June 19, 200817 yr Author Huskies looks wolfish like but to know a husky is to know that they don't have a mean bone in their body, it is well known that they are not used for protection and you could steal the whole house with them lol it is written in every profile about huskies but they have the look especially the one with the blue eyes. .
June 20, 200817 yr She is gorgeous. Take her harness off and she'd look like a wolf. Wolves are pretty
June 20, 200817 yr Very nice picture Elly! Looks awesome in the snow! Our Husky Kisska (Which is suppose to be Russian for pure) is getting big, now 6 months old. When she was a puppy And now with that, "It wasn't me! It was the cat" look on her face! We have a harness similar to walk her as she pulls like a steam train!! Loves to go down to the river! June 20, 200817 yr Author throwback she is beautiful, isn't it amazing how their faces start to thin, I hope she keeps her mask, Niketa had a nice one just like that and started to loose it over time, Niketa loves to run through the rivers too but she is not much of a swimmer just a runner and she loves to run in circles in the water and dunk her head, during the summer we had a pool just for her , she will be blowing her coat soon that I don't look forward to.
June 20, 200817 yr This is a very beautiful photo of Niketa Elly We hope she keeps her markings too. But they say they change a little everytime they blow there coat. It's a magic shot! Can't believe she's 14! But how cold does it look!!! To cold for me  Edited June 20, 200817 yr by throwback
June 21, 200817 yr Author It get to around 20F to 35 F during the winter time, it was probably around that when it was snowing, yes she has lost her mask more and more with every blowout, if I had my other pics on digital I would show you her puppy pics looked just like yours, maybe I will hook the scanner up and scan them in my spare time .
June 21, 200817 yr Throwback, Kisska is gorgeous. Does she have different coloured eyes? Sorry, but what does blowout mean? A moult? Wow Elly, 14 that is a good age and she looks great!
June 21, 200817 yr Author SW they have a double coat like your German Shephards, Malamutes, even Pomerians etc...and what happens is during the winter the undercoat gets really thick to keep them warm (no matter where they live) and then in the early summer the undercoat starts to come out in chucks hence blow the coat, I use an undercoat rake to brush her out and it lasts for a couple months probably still summer is over and then again they keep their coat starting in the fall. It is nice because in the winter months she barely sheds (she doesn't shed all year round like say a dalamation) only for that blow out but let me tell you it makes up 10x for not shedding. Another nice feature about this breed is they don't get that doggy order like some of the shorter breeds too that hair helps keep them really oderless but it doesn't help allergy suffers .
June 21, 200817 yr I hear you on that one!!! My Pomeranian (Roxy) has chunks of hair falling out of her flanks right now, it's a nightmare!!!! My dobermann x rottie used to get it too
June 22, 200817 yr Throwback, Kisska is gorgeous. Does she have different coloured eyes?Sorry, but what does blowout mean? A moult? Wow Elly, 14 that is a good age and she looks great! Sailorwolf I think they call it party eye? She has one brown with little bits of blue ( looks like an opal ), and one blue. Elly has cover the coat question. I may have to ask Elly more about Husky's as I know nothing about them. Bought some nice books on them but haven't got around to reading them. :book: Our last dog was a Jack Russell. Mia, she left us after 12 years :angel1:
June 22, 200817 yr Author ask anytime, Niketa is a husky to heart, exercise and give them something to do to pull makes for a happier husky for sure, don't let them pull too heavy until around 2y old as they are still growing. She is a dominant female so we are careful when we introduce her to new dogs. She has her quirks, we love to make her howl .
