Posted June 12, 200817 yr As many of you know, I'll be moving into a unit in just over two weeks. I can't take my aviary, so I'll be leaving it at home (which is only 2 minutes from home). I do however want to have some inside Budgies. I have never had inside ones before, so this will be all new for me. Hopefully I'll have some bubs from my current clutch, if not, I'll be buying some. I've been looking on Ebay for cages. I want something big enough so they can live comfortably, but my spare room will also have to accomodate my lizards and a small desk, so it can't be too big. The bar spacing also needs to be small, as it will house budgies not cockatiels. I have found some cages for cats/ferrets/birds. Some have small bar spacing= 1.2 cm... but they are huge. 1.5m high. If I did getting something like this, I'll be turning them on their side, so this will become the width rather then height. But I'm thinking this will be too big... mmm For those who have inside birds, what is your cage like and where did you get it from... thanks all

June 12, 200817 yr Item number is : 190228158012I think it might not work though, on closer inspection I think it has the wider bar spacing.Try this one : http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Top-quality-Bird-Ca...1QQcmdZViewItem
June 12, 200817 yr You should try the 604 it is a great cage and is only about $300. Most petshops and online trade sites have them Best of all it has budgie sized wire Cage : 77.5x45.5x91cmStand :82x46.5x70cm 10mm gap between bars. On wheels for easy moving and cage can be lifted off stand if needed. Edited June 12, 200817 yr by Sailorwolf
June 12, 200817 yr i bought my cage on ebay and if you have a browse there are always cages for sale.i saw a few that look good and not too expensive. Edited June 12, 200817 yr by deb
June 12, 200817 yr That is my patio cage, if you are down near springvale. Springvale birds and pets on Springvale rd always has them in stock for around the $300 - $400 mark Otherwise there is a thread on good vs bad cages that I think Kaz started that has some examples to help you out. These are always on sale but the bar spacing is 1.2 cm so might not be close enough I stuck at letting distances http://cgi.ebay.com.au/3-level-145-cm-Ferr...1QQcmdZViewItem Edited June 12, 200817 yr by Angelic Vampyre
June 13, 200817 yr Have you had a look at Ivorsons out your way Maesie? They usually have a good range of cages at reasonable prices (Don't buy birds there though)
June 13, 200817 yr Author Thanks everyone... it's so hard to find something I'm happy with. I found one but the links won't work grrrr. I'd turn it on it's side so the length would be 91cm, height 41cm and depth 61cm. Bar spacing is approx 1.5 cm... June 13, 200817 yr Looks like a lovely cage. I have seen that exact cage in our local Ned's store - i don't know the price though. Do you have Ned's in VIC too?? I have my Cookie, Scooter and Latte in this cage. cost $80 (with stand) from my local petshop
June 13, 200817 yr I know someone else how has done that she opens the roof as as side door for easy acess to the birds but the small front door she had to wire shut cause they learnt to side it open! **Liv** use the cage you showed for my winter holiday / inside / breeding cages for my pairs or my older birds in winter. I got them for $20 second hand from my local breeder/pet shop owner and also go the stand for free after I took some birds off his hands. I love them and think they are great only issue is most sell them with poles running left to right not front to back for me not an issue cause the nesting boxes are on the bars but does cut down the flight space for the birds. My only issue is that you can't remove the wire bottom and alot of my older birds who do not fly so well like to sit on the bottom so I have to put paper down on it and then yank it in and out through the front but they do work great if you can get them for a bargin. June 13, 200817 yr I have one of those AV plus the same one in the next size up too (which is HUGE and would probably actually be perfect for you Maesie!). I had to make stretchy seed guards for them as they flick the seed out all over the floor constantly. Other than I love them. Also if you got two smaller ones you could take the ends off and join two together to make a single longer one. Check out this website, the guy is in Sydney but apparently he does freight, he has some really cool cages at pretty good prices. I love the breeding cages and the house typ cage on page 2 of the wrought iron cages http://www.geocities.com/jj_aviariescages/ Edited June 13, 200817 yr by melbournebudgies
June 13, 200817 yr I vacum put the vacum away come back in and this..... I know Harley does it just to annoy me! He was sitting in his feed bowl looking at me as if to say "what, I didn't do anything!"
June 13, 200817 yr Would you like me to make a couple of my snazzy seed catchers for you? I make them in bright colours out of stretchy ribbing so that sit nice and flush around the sides and underneath and I just take them off every week or to when I do a big clean and empty the husks/seed out of them.
June 13, 200817 yr Hmmm I looked into them but could not find any that fit. My only issues is moving the cage if and when I have eggs and babies... really it's all part of having an inside cage, I changed the study about and everytime I move anything guess what I find??? that's right bird feather and seeds! Inside birds = mess but i don't care. Anyway back on topic so maesie did you get the one off ebay?
June 13, 200817 yr Ahh, well when I have babies I don't usually bother taking the seed guard off, the majority of it gets caught in the tray anyway, so I just take the tray out and empty, don't have to take the guard off to do that Mine are custom made to fit my cages, my smaller flight is identical to yours so I don't mind making a couple for you in return for all the hover critters you've got me lately
June 16, 200817 yr I have a picture posted on Cage Set-ups through the FAQ's but I got mine on e-bay and it is huge for 1 budgie, I bought it when I had 2 at the time, it could probably fit at least 4-6 , bought it for 100.00 U.S. that included shipping and handling.
June 17, 200817 yr The one I am using for my 4 is 34" x 22" x 43" (86.4 cm W x 55.9 cm D x 109.2 cm H). It has a breeder door on each end and a huge front door with 2 types of latches as well as a key lock. It came with seed guards all the way around but I don't use them due to space issues. As I don't breed them anymore the breeder doors are now just new entrances/exits for the birds - some prefer to use the front door others like the sides. It comes on a built-in stand so is much taller than I am (I need a chair to get them from the top), the dimensions are the usable space for the birds. I got it at a local bird fair for I think about $185.00 USD (it's been awhile). Edited June 17, 200817 yr by Rainbow
June 17, 200817 yr Author Thanks all. I've gone through many posts and the FAQ's and found them all to be very helpful. I ended up getting this cage: How many do you think I can happily keep in here? The measurements are: 70cm heigh, 60cm wide and 40cm deep. Thanks all.
June 17, 200817 yr How many do you think I can happily keep in here? The measurements are: 70cm heigh, 60cm wide and 40cm deep. Looks lovely Maesie I'd say 3 would fit nicely if they are alowed out to play daily, or 2 if they will spend most of their time in there
June 18, 200817 yr l would say at least 2 budgies could fit comfortably in that cage Edited June 18, 200817 yr by birdluv added information to original post
June 18, 200817 yr Well I will say 2.5 then Maes depends if they are going to have flight time outside the cage or if hey are only Caged ... 3 if with Flight time 2 with none
