Posted June 11, 200817 yr I have seen a pretty bird today and to me i looks a mix of opaline and spangle. does this mutation exist and What is an opaline spangle??? What do they look like?? Thanks in advance :hap:
June 11, 200817 yr I dont know how to explain it, but this is Marco my opaline spangle cock. I also queried an opaline spangle hen I bought a while ago in this post http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....746&hl=isis She is pictured with a spangle so you may be able to see the differences? June 11, 200817 yr Author The budgie i saw today had very clear markings. perhaps they are good spangle markings rather than opaline ....???
June 11, 200817 yr Author It's a green bird with markings like this (above picture) but the markings are much thicker and clear, not 'blurred' like the opaline spangle ... She is quite a nice sized hen too (in a pet shop)
June 11, 200817 yr I have some like that where the body colour replaces the proper black spangles, does that sound about right? Like this goldenface spangle guy: Edited June 11, 200817 yr by melbournebudgies
June 11, 200817 yr Author Not exactly... From my memory the markings are dark and probably a bit thicker than those of your bird. I have to pop to the shops again in a moment, so i will take another look at her (never know i might even bring her home hahah)
June 11, 200817 yr I have thicker one's than that too, I'll post another photo giveme a sec... For some reason PB is not letting me resize but here he is: http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x259/er...ax/DSC00488.jpg Edited June 11, 200817 yr by melbournebudgies
June 11, 200817 yr Author Thats a very pretty budgie MB My memory is getting all scrambled - i would be no good as a witness looking at a lineup of criminals hahaha.
June 11, 200817 yr I don't think I actually have that one anymore, it went to someone, AV, or Nadi maybe?? I'll have to redo my catalogue so I know what colours are actually out there
June 11, 200817 yr Author I weakened hehe Here she is, I have called her Lilly Edited June 11, 200817 yr by **Liv**
June 11, 200817 yr Awww she's very cute Liv. I have a reasonably recent "Lily" too, but she's nothing like yours lol
June 11, 200817 yr Author I love them too... Her markings are soo much darker than all the spangles i have seen Edited June 11, 200817 yr by **Liv**
June 11, 200817 yr They ( if i remember correctly) are true spangle markings .......... show breeders can comment on that

June 11, 200817 yr She's a Yf spangle, with my birds I find as babies they'll always have darker markinging, it'll moult out and not be soo mottled as she gets older, although they're still always alot darker than my normal spangles markings.

June 11, 200817 yr The others are right those are what a good Spangle is supposed to look like. The paler ones are what are considered show faults. Good purchase, lets hope you can breed some good ones from her.
June 12, 200817 yr Author Hey, thanks guys!! :hap: Sorry i didn't get back sooner - My internet provider had a wide spread 'crash' over all of SA last night and it has only JUST come back on line When i saw her in the shop i knew she looked special. She is a nice size too (for a pet type) and i plan to breed with her next year :hap: I will have to work out a partner for her to ensure her true markings are passed on :hap:
