Posted June 10, 200817 yr So... I signed the lease for my unit today :parrot: whooooo hooooo. I went shopping with my sister yesterday and got the bargain of the year... yes say it with me, the bargain of the year!!! A dining table and four chairs (with padded seats) for.................... wait for it................... $99!!!!! How cool is that. It was from Fantastic Furnature. It looks and feels pretty sturdy, and is a dark timber colour so doesn't look cheap. Very happy with that buy. My sister and I thought that was the price for the display one. It had a small dint but I didn't mind. She went to get a staff member whilst I lay accross the corner of the table covering the price!!!!! It turns out they had heaps flat packed out the back... lol... So now I need a few more bigger thing. I have a small 34cm TV which will do for now until I can save up for a big one, a vacuum cleaner but will borrow Mum's until I buy one... BUT I need a microwave, Fridge and Washing Machine. There is a LG Washing machine I'm liking and a Samsung Fridge. The links are below. Can anyone shed some light on my choices. Everyone I've spoken to says they look like good options, but what are your thoughts. Thanks all Washing Machine Fridge Please note, the prices on the websites are the RRP and I have found them at Harvey Norman much cheaper... and that's before bargaining!!! June 10, 200817 yr Hi Maesie! Firstly let me congratulate you on getting a unit! I must have missed a few posts, I knew you were looking but didnt know you found a place!! Both appliances look great. I have a lot of LG products and I've never had a problem with any of them. Samsung are also a great brand so I'm sure you wont be dissapointed with your fridge. I am a huge fan of Ebay and there are huge savings to be had if you are lucky to find things in your area!! Happy moving!!
June 10, 200817 yr Hi Maesie, i can help with the washing machine we have the same model, and our machine does 2 -3 cycles each day thanks to 5 kids who love dirt e.t.c. so i would this model to recommend it to you. mathew
June 10, 200817 yr My only advice is to take a two litre milk botte with you and make sure it fits in the door of the fridge with plenty of space. The newer fridges all have plastic door shelves and ours has cracked because the two litre bottle fitted but it was a tight fit and put pressure on the shelf front. Also if you look at other fridges steer clear of any that have the cheper plastic shelves as they crack very quickly. The washing machine looks good, whatever you do don't let the sales assistant try and sell you one of the washer/dryer combos, a friend of ours has had nothng but trouble with theirs.

I LOVE Ebay as well. It's my second favourite website. It does make my mind rest knowing someone else who has one and recomends it! All good points and I'll remember them. I hate shopping for appliances grrrrr. As to the washer and dryer combo... I agree. Do not mix them. Like the VCR/DVD players. Leave them alone lol!!!
June 10, 200817 yr Same here! Every night I go from BBC to Ebay, then Ebay to BBC then etc etc etc!!!! Edited June 10, 200817 yr by jenene283
June 10, 200817 yr My advice - I am the negotiator in my home. Get prices for the same fridge etc from at least 4 different stores. Go to the store you like the look of and have been around the longest. Show them your notebook of quotes and ask for their best price. Also ask for free deliver - never know they may give it. Big thing to note: measure the distance of your front door. We bought a freezer couple years ago & didn't measure and had to remove the entire door to get it to fit through. Delivery men were not happy!
June 10, 200817 yr They look really good- we have alot of samsung and they have been really good. Just one thing- extended warranty is a must, we have in the past had a lot of things breakdown (before we got the samsung ones...) and the extended warranty repalces them or fixes them without any worries. Also The Good Guys are really good for that kind of thing. Friendly and are less hastle if you ever run into any problems... Good Luck
June 10, 200817 yr i have bought all of my appliances from reconditioned whitegood shops and they are usually half the price of new ones and you get 12 months warranty. i bought my washing machine 5 years ago as a reconditioned one and it is still going good.
June 10, 200817 yr C O N G R A T S On FREEDOM I love moving house heheh .... If you were in near me ( mum works at harveys and couldhave gotten you a bigger discount .....) But i agree EXTENDED WARRANTY I have a LG ( ****) dishwasher that has broken down 5 time since i bought it ( in 2004) and i still have the warranty till 2011 which is a life saver i think it was $50 - $100 for extra years, sooo worth it ..... I have a top loader washing mashing as i have kids and blankets need washing reguarly lol , so i can't coment on it - But the fridge ( if you are a weekly shopper freezer size should be great ( if you don't stock up on icecream ) I fortnighly shop so i needed an extra freezer ...... I can't wait to see your new unit .. FUN TIMES AHEAD MATE .... Where ever you get your white goods from get warranty:D HAPPY MOVING MATE >...
June 10, 200817 yr Congrats on getting your place!!! The appliances look good. I have had to buy both a washing machine and a fridge in the last 12 months haha. I got a Westinghouse fridge (cant remember the capacity, but its beg enough for a family of 4) which is brilliant and it got it new for $999 (i haggled ) I got a fisher and paykel front loader 7kg washing machine for $750. I have always had a top loader before, but i love this one. The clothes come out clean and not too creased. The only downside is it take a long time for each cycle. I often do a load when i go to bed and hang it out in the morning I agree with BC (bird_crazy - why does it sensor your name ), get prices from lots of different shops. Here harvey normal is the most expensive place to buy whitegoods. I got both my fridge and washer from our local retrovision (who also sell white goods) Combined i saved $500 dollars and it really pays to shop around. Edited June 10, 200817 yr by **Liv**
June 10, 200817 yr lol at Harvey normal. Do you have a bed? The only furniture I own is a bookshelf, a desk and a giant budgie cage. I don't even own a bed (I'm borrowing one). My inside budgies have their cage on top of two smaller cages as a stand ( I really need to get another table or book shelf or something) Oh wait, I have a TV and cabinet! June 11, 200817 yr Author Hi all and thanks for your assistance and congratulations etc... I love shopping but I'm more of a 'find something you like and buy it' kind of girl. BUT I have been shopping around for these big ticket items. Retravision wasn't real good and didn't have any washing machines I liked and the fridges were all either too small or too big. I've got one more place to go to tomorrow night, and then all the local ones will be done. Harvey Norman has a big sale on at the moment and have been the most helpful and have given me the best deal so far... and I haven't even begun to haggle yet (It will remind me of Bali, yet some how I don't think I'll be able to that good of a deal lol). I will also be getting an extended warranty... I think at Harvey Normans it was like $100 for an extra 6 years on each appliance. My brother-in-law is really good at buying stuff like that too, so I'll get him to come along when I decide on my choices. I did however buy a phone today. Single handset with answering machine... YAH... I'm a big kid now Other than that... I have everything I NEED... the Big TV and vacuum cleaner will have to wait for now.
June 11, 200817 yr Look out for reconditioned or factory seconds my fridge was half price cause it was floor stock and has two scratches on the base I am still trying to find them. It did not come in a box but really who cares! Ebay is good and extended warrenties are the stuff of gods!
June 11, 200817 yr Harvey Norman can give you a discount they have room to move on their prices Ask for free delivery, if they can't kock alot off the Price. they usually will come down in the price if they can't. If it is a floor model that is left you can get uptp $250 off the already discounted prices too ( I got my $250 camera for $50 Was the last one left ( floor model, they sold it for less then cost to make room for new stock) ... If you can wait try and hold off until July this is every shops ( STOCKTAKE END OF FINANCAL YEAR CLEARANCES)
