Posted June 9, 200817 yr okay I now have 6 birds and planning on breeding a few more. My issue is that I know that I want to have three 'stations' you could call it. 1) the breeding cage - which I have and is set up, I will only breed one pair at a time 2) the patio cage (will hold 6) - which Harley will most likey stay in cause he can't fly and young birds will go in cause he is good about eating his vegtables and I can handle the young ones before I re house or move them to the aviary 3) the outside aviary - this is where I run into issues. I want room to have like 20 odd birds but most likey will only have like 10 or 12 max in there. all the aviarys i have found are starting to run into the $2000 mark is there someone in melbourne who makes them or can convert sheds into aviaires? Anyone on the board want to build me one or have an idea? i do regular checks of ebay etc... but still can't find one that will give me enough room and is not ugly. Any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.
June 9, 200817 yr You don't need a huge aviary to house 20 birds. You can get them at place like bunnings sometimes. There was that nice red hexagonal one on ebay, that would be big enough for youCheck out this one http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Great-Bird-Aviary_W...1QQcmdZViewItem

I am really thinking of buying a shed and dad and i converting it.
June 9, 200817 yr okay how do you define nice There is a guy in Lancefield on ebay who makes them for $600-800 but I'm not sure whether they dismantle .... I just checked his pages and he will make it in kit form for an extra $60. Check out his other items too http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ARCH-bird-AVIARY-ca...1QQcmdZViewItem
June 9, 200817 yr Author Yeah i know the guy from lancefield we are looking at $1300 installed cause it has to come in kit form and then he has to put it together.... hmmmm I am just picky i know what I want and can't afford it or build it
June 9, 200817 yr ARe you getting a slab layed or just putting it one pavers or dirt? You should be able to put the kit ones together on you own with a couple of friends
June 9, 200817 yr Author You so don't know my friends! You know my patio cage right, well it took them 6 hours and a case of beer before I gave up and told them to go home and I put it together! I would love a slab but thinking cost wise it is going to have to be pavers. Edited June 9, 200817 yr by Angelic Vampyre
June 9, 200817 yr Yeah but those patio cages are a total pain in the ****! An aviary is basically four walls screwed together with a roof screwed on top, really easy
June 9, 200817 yr Author I guess I am jsut to picky! At the moment dad and I are talking a small garden shed which we will then take one wall off and build out a flight area. I found one I liked but when i went and looked at it, it was smaller then she said so I would not have put more the 6 birds in it.
June 10, 200817 yr Have you seen Una's aviary (don't know the post sorry), I think it's made from a converted clothes line with a shed on one side. You know those square ones that spin around? Just put 4 poles, one on each corner and then you can net it.
June 10, 200817 yr Should try to breed 2 pairs at the same time, incase you need to foster out any chicks ..... Good luck with the avairy issues ...... You could build one there are a few place on the net like www.dealsdirect.com.au that have wholesale cages and avairies
June 10, 200817 yr Author I might have purchased one! Here are the pictures she sent me It's in my price bracket, it's not 100% what I want but it will do for now. Also I know the lady has the teils and about 11 budgies to get rid of so if anyone wants them let me know I can pick them up when i pick the aviary up and we can work out a drop off. Please keep your fingers crossed for me
June 10, 200817 yr Look for Nerwens topics...she has an aviary exactly like that I think Good luck with getting yours
June 10, 200817 yr I have an aunty who is setting up an aviary so can probably provide a home for the birds I'll pick the one's I want and then send her some of my current ones and any of her's I don't want for future breeding
June 10, 200817 yr Author I may take some of her tiels and see if I want to keep them or pass them on to other people. Yes and a really good scrub that is what it is going to get over the weekend. She offered me the branches but I think it will be better if I put my own in and set it up the way I want to.Might get it up and running and clean and then work out flooring at a later date. I might have to move my budgies inside into the breeding cage till I get it all set up. Oh god how do I know that this is going to end up being alot of work! Pictures will be posted once I get everything sorted. My only fear is that it will not fit my trailer and then we have to start the whole thing again! Fingers crossed for me!
June 10, 200817 yr No worries, hey if you decide not to get it let me know the details, I'm thinking about getting another one
June 10, 200817 yr That looks fantastic, similar to mine, except i built mine . I would buy that tho...
June 10, 200817 yr Author Nope nope just sent her back an e-mail saying that I want it just worried about the size of it on a 6x4 trailer. Newan brought his back on what looked to be a 6x4 but the lady is going to take it apart so a bit worried about how we are going to make it fit! Now I am getting excited and worried.
June 10, 200817 yr I t won't matter if it hangs over the sides a tiny bit as long as it isn't over too far, did she give you the dimensions??
June 10, 200817 yr Author Yes she did we think may prop it up so it ends up in a near A frame. I think the issue is the roof but Dad says that it will fit.
June 10, 200817 yr Might have to hire a car trailer for half a day, heaps of room and not so expensive.
