Featured Replies

hi there, i have just noticed that Bing's poos have gone green, they are firm and not runny and don't look like they have any inconsistensies. i have changed his seed afew days ago from trill budgerigar food to whistler budgierigar food as he only really ate the millet in the seed.

please help i can post a photo if need be,

thanks

well i noticed that he hasnt done any more green poos, and the other ones have dried and are now black  but i did notice he had a poo stuck in his vent and i could swear i heard him straining to get it out, his vent is still a light brown colour, but there are no poos stuck in it.

I'll put my money on the change of seed. when i changed off Trill seed to a different seed mix, all my birds got stressed and all went though a bad moult and it was not pretty  They are all okay now thank goodness, but it was not nice too see.

Have you got any Trill seed left??? Perhaps give it back to him and then slowly change the seed mix over 2 weeks or so. - I know I wish i had done that with my birds!

thanks liv, i thought he was okay seeing as he was eating it fine and yeh i guess not  i will use the remaining trill i have which is about 1-2 days worth and hoefully it will make a difference :D

when you do a seed change always make sure it is gradual because it can upset their balance inside, I know with my one dog if I don't do a gradual change of a food brand she get the runs.

you might have to go out and buy one last box of Trill. I don't think 1-2 days will be enough to let his body get used to the new seed blend. I know its a pain as a box probably lasts Bing about 3 months lol

Well if you mix the trill with the other stuff, it should last a little longer as you will use less of it each day.

Sometimes poos go green from stress. It think psittacosis can be another cause of green poo

thanks everyone, i think i should be okay with the box i have as it has a good 2 days worth of seed left and if i mix it in it should last about a week of 2

Could try some bird probiotic to balance his intestinal flora.

City Farmers near you should carry probiotics :)

Has anybody ever tried Protexin Probiotics? That is all I can find near me - my budgie has a similar problem, poos keep going green then back to normal.

Green poop is okay, if it is a normal consistency. Budgie poop when wet will look green, then as it dries it will go black :)

If it is a little black ring with a white dot in the middle when dry, then the poop is normal :D
