Its so great to have all this info at your fingertips in the comfort of your home!!!I am getting a baby budgie on friday for my daughter ( and me)...She is a real animal lover saving anything she can eg: snails ants anything that crosses her paths...She is so caring with animals..At moment we only have a fish...I have a local lady who is a breeder picking my birdie up on friday from Batemans Bay and im so exited...I will spend the next week on your great forum leaning what to do and what not to do...Ive made a great little spot for him/her to sleep and as i live near the beach i will have endless supply to cuttlefish bone...I will be trying to handle birdie as much as possible as i would love him/her not to be in cage very often...we have no threats/cats/dogs etc so i hopping birdie will just hang round freely..I have a few questions but i will do some more looking at threads before i start posting as im sure its all been asked before...So thats it guys...Thanks for having a place where we can learn from others...Im determined to do this right and i want my birdie to be the happiest ever...Will glady accept ant tips from you guys...Thanks for reading, Regards Kirsty

May 25, 200816 yr Hi Kirsty and welcome. Good on you for aiming to learn as much as possible before getting your new baby. If you click on the search button (Top right), you can type in anything (as long as it has over four letters). This will bring up posts with information about your search topic. Also, the FAQ's (also top right) has so much info... you can also search there to! Some cage tips from me Get a decent sized cage... even though you don't plan on keeping your new friend in their much. Here is a link for Good and Bad Cages written by one of our moderators. Also, get rid of any of those plastic perches they supply and replace them with natural ones from the garden. They provide better exercise for your budgies feet and give them something to pull apart also. Ummm... I could go on and on, but I'll leave it there for now. ALso remember, no question is ever silly and that we were all new to budgies once. Welcome again and enjoy!!!!
May 25, 200816 yr Author Thank you guys!!Ive been on this forum now for about three hours and i could keep going BUT theres no house work being done!!!Tis very addictive eh? You all seem like a great bunch of bird lovers, im very happy to be a part of your thriving community...Kirsty
May 25, 200816 yr Hello and welcome Keeping a budgie is pretty easy providing the basics are met. As Maesie said, getting the right cage, feeding the right food, and puting your budgie in the right location are the three most important aspects of budgie keeping Well done for researching before getting your birdie Feel free to ask any questions you like. We don't mind answering questions that might been asked before
May 25, 200816 yr Hi and welcome Glad we have people who actually check what to do BEFORE they get them Shows your dedication to owning your birdie !!! Hope we're able to help you along your way, there's plenty to learn!!!
May 25, 200816 yr Hi, welcome to the forum you are right, this forum and budgies are very addictive remember when you get your new friend to take tons of pictures, we all like to see alot of pictures.
May 25, 200816 yr Hi and welcome to the forum. Just to add to what Maesie said. Make sure that any branches you get from the garden are those from safe species. Anything like poplar, apple, fruit trees and eucalyptus trees are great for your budgie. Make sure that branches you pick are fresh and mold-free. You can clean your perches with vinegar and water mix then leave them in the sun to dry. This should kill any germs on the branches. Edited May 25, 200816 yr by Sailorwolf
