Posted May 20, 200817 yr Moved into our new place a few weeks ago and decided not to bring my aviaries with us but to build some new ones- better suited to the space and in a matching set-up. As before I had 3 different shapes and it woulg have looked a bit motley here. Worked out where it was going and how big approx (depending on what lengths the steel came in to make it easier) there would be 4 sections for the birds. Paving was done a month ago, its had time to settle and the concrete/dust to harden, wash. Steel was delivered last week Other half got busy welding up the frames- it'll be just under 10mt x 1.8mt making each section 2.2 x 1.8mt. Half mesh and half tin sides and dividers, full tin roof. Security door per 2 sections in a triangle shape (3 doors) Wire didnt come up on the truck like it was supposed to so hopefully it arrives this week and I can start wiring up the frames ready to be put together next week (frames sitting on the paved area teasing me) Birds are still at the old house luckily we had a friend buy the house and is letting them stay until we are ready, I just go and feed them and check them every day. This is half of the back section- there are 2 parts this long More pics as its built and birds added.
May 20, 200817 yr So exciting Pie and lovely shaded trees too..... can't wait to see it up. PS you need more birds.

May 20, 200817 yr it will be interesting to follow your journey of building your aviary. l can hardly wait to see your finished aviary
May 20, 200817 yr your aviary set up is going ot be so great when it is up and going. I am so pleased for you ( and insanely jealous at the same time - ha ha ha). Looking forward to watching this thread as the journey continues
May 20, 200817 yr Looks great Pie, nice to have a brand new complex I bet it wont take you long to fill it up…LOL…
May 21, 200817 yr Author No wont take long at all. One end section will have my lovebirds, and I already have 2 aviaries of budgies so they get the other 2 sections (bit more room though) which leaves 1 section- we are 'discussing' his (!) finches or more room for budgies!!
May 21, 200817 yr Author lol not particularly....especially if it could be used for mmmm lets see- budgies!! Nah not sure what I will have in that section yet, will decide when its up and the birds are in. (they're his lovebirds too most days!!) Edited May 21, 200817 yr by the pie
May 30, 200817 yr Author Getting there, hands were killing me this morning when I got up, spent all day yesterday working the wire! Meshed the panels wed/thurs Putting the panels together- it starting to look like an aviary now. This will be 2 sections- havent put the doors on yet, security doors and dividing panel will go in last Had to take a branch down- wouldve have been to close if the wind picked up. Roof next
May 30, 200817 yr Looking good Since you have so much room, when I start having a shortage i'll send my birds to you for "boarding" haha!
June 11, 200817 yr Author Plenty of room for that Lib! Thought I'd update, birds went in today, heaps of room in there for them (and any new ones ) definately due for some more, I have thought hard about what I need to add but am due the weekend the auction is on oh well, will be going to Perth after so hope to catch up with some breeders then Have put breeding cages in the spare one for now, seems to work well so far have added more since the picture was taken. They have been so noisy all afternoon Got my good ones in the breeding cages and a couple in the aviary at the old place until tomorrow The others and a few culls that will be going to a friends house when I get around to it. Scrubber cage (poofter cage for obvious reasons!)- these birds arent show birds, just pets, old birds, my little pegleg and others, all have some attachment and they are spoilt rotten like my others. (Kaz- popeye low right) Few of the lovebirds, most of these are young so they are doing the scaredy thing, have my Nyasa on eggs at the old house still They've all got about 2.5m x 2m to fly around in now Put a campoven roast on for lunch Well guarded by the pup!!!! Next job will be a driveway up to the back shed and get rid of all this bulldust Edited June 11, 200817 yr by the pie
