Posted May 19, 200816 yr Some pictures of a few of my young birds that were hatched early January & now going through their first moult. I thought they were starting to look quite good. They were bred from a Grey Green Normal hen bred by me & a Cobalt Normal cock I bought at the Hunter Valley show last year. Grey Normal Cock. Cobalt, Normal Hen… its colour is washed out a bit by the flash. One of the two Grey Green Normal Hens. The two Grey Green Hens & the Cobalt. There were five in the batch, but I lost one just after they went in the aviary. I have another younger batch similar to these. Edited May 19, 200816 yr by Norm
May 19, 200816 yr You have some really beautiful budgies Norm. They are looking very healthy and well looked after.
May 19, 200816 yr Author Thanks guys, now I just hope nothing happens to any of them, before I can breed from them. Don’t worry Derek, I’m desperate for some good hens for my cocks too, it’s hard to get good hens & even to breed them, I seem to get so many more cocks, but this batch has more hens. I was hoping to show some of these in the young bird section of our local show in two weeks, but I just haven’t had the time to clean up & paint my show cages [old] or get time to train them. Maybe next year.
May 19, 200816 yr they are very lovely Norm, the first photo is beautiful, have you considered adding one of your budgie picture to the June Budgie of the Month
May 19, 200816 yr Heard the other day that there are moves afoot to change the size of show cages. Talking about making them not as deep. Not sure on the truth of it but understand they have already done it in the UK. Thats what I was told anyway.

Not sure on the truth of it but understand they have already done it in the UK. Thats what I was told anyway. I haven’t heard that Derek, but it could be on the cards, that bugs me about showing you need a different cage for just about every different type of bird & they then keep changing them, which can work out quite a bit of money. Even though mine are the same size they have changed the front wire & to have good presentation, I need to already buy new wires, I better wait & see, if I spent money on fixing them all up & then found they are useless I wouldn’t be too happy.
May 20, 200816 yr Norm I was reading in the minutes of the last ANBC Meeting that they have now approved a powder coated wire front in a chrome color. Discussion Point – consideration be given to allow powder coated chrome show cage fronts. A presentation was given of three different show cages with powder coated fronts attached by Dave Ganzer. It was decided that Dave gather more information as to the suggested cost and a standardised colour code for the proposed use of the show cage fronts. This information is to be sent to the Coordinator for distribution to the states and zone to gather home state information on the use of for 2007 C & S meeting. After discussion a motion was put. Motion by SQBBA, Henry George, seconded by Qld Nth & Central Zone, Scott Erickson that: “Powder coating be accepted as an alternative cage front finish as per the information supplied by Dave Ganzer. Colour: - Precious Silver Pearl Gloss Level Satin Brand: - Dulux Line No- :- 272 Shade No- 57225” This was carried at colour & Standards: 6-1 Edited May 20, 200816 yr by Derek
May 20, 200816 yr Author The Pie, Birdluv…Thanks guys…Thanks for that info Derek…I wont rush into fixing up those cages till I know what’s going on, looks like that was in 2007, so maybe that’s the changes that have already occurred.
