Hi there!

I know in the past people have posted their concerns re: never seeing their budgies drink, and I know that it is in fact a bit of a rarity to see them having a drink, but I was wondering, seeing as I don't get to see Smokey drink, and therefore have little idea of HOW MUCH he is drinking, what signs should I be looking out for to tell me he might not be getting enough water? The water level in his water dripper thing goes down, but I have noticed he likes to play with it so I don't like to just assume that because the level is going down, he is getting all that water!

Don’t worry if he’s playing with it [they like a bath] he will also be drinking it. They say in the books that they can live for something like 30 days without water, so they don’t drink lots especially if they are getting Greens & other things with a high moisture content.

Totaly agree with Norm, on that one, A few things to add . If you have the slim tube water when you see him playing in it add a little container of water he probably want to bathe himself .....

If you are really concerned add a little ( AN I MEAN A LITTLE) pinch of salt to his food

I agree with Norm and Neat. Nothing to worry about :hap:

I haven't heard that before??? What does the salt do?

As long as he knows where his water is, I wouldn't worry... If he IS thirsty, he WILL drink :)

I wouldn't add salt that I heard is very dangerous for birds, I would suppose it would have them become more thirsty so you can see them drinking, trust me if your bird is acting normal it is getting what it needs, I never see Merlin drink and it has been 2 years so don't worry he is fine :).
