Mixed Avairy

As I'm moving out soon (hopfully), I'm not going to have a lot of room for my avairy. I plan to buy a new one, and with this limited space, the tiels and budgies will be living together. Currently they are separated but quite often when I'm home I hope the divider and they have a play together. They haven't had a sleep over yet lol. When they go near each other, I've only noticed Bert (female tiel) lunge and hiss at the budgies, but she does that to me to. I'm just wondering what to expect (based on your experiences) etc... There doesn't seem to be any major anger yet, and I'm hoping when they 'live' together in the new avairy, neither of them will 'own' it yet, whereas now, they each have their 'own' things. I'm hoping the avairy wil be quite large... any idea what the minimum would be for 6-10 budgies and 2 tiels?

Any ideas and advice would be great. I know it's not ideal, but sometimes that's just the way life goes... cheers all.

I have 7 tiels in my aviary with 35 budgies. There are no fights between the budgies and tiels.... even with any new birds i introduce. So from my experience I would say, go for it, and put them together :)

I find budgies and tiels to be as bossy as each other hehe

Thanks Liv. I agree on the bossiness. I think they'll be fine, esp in the new one. I think I'll keep doing the whole 'play days' for a little while, and then bight the bullet when it's time. If I decide to introduce them full time before I move, I think I'll re-arrange the whole avairy, just so nothing is familar to them and they can't claim 'their' spots! lol. Cheers mate :)

Thanks all... well they're actually having a sleep over tonight! I had to leave work early today for an appointment, and when I got home I opened the divider and they had a play... well, sat near each other lol :) . When I went back down later to try and heard the tiels back to their side, I decided to leave it open. I'm about to check on them now, just gotta find the torch. All seems fine though.

Just checked... they're all sleeping on the same side. A tiel and a Budgie on the hanging rod, and three budgies and a tiel on the perch. All seem like happy campers thus far :)

I have 6 tiels, 35 budgies and a pair of red rumps in my aviary, I find there is more bickering within each species than between them :) Except for the red rumps they just don't care :)

Tiels and budgies are good, so're quails... but i don't think i'd personally ever try for rumps or anything else in mine :)

Oh yeah, there are five quails in there too. The red rumps are actually the cruisiest birds in the aviary believe it or not. There is nowhere for them to breed so it probably helps that they don't feel the need to defend a territory.
