Hi all... I have some exciting news. Whilst on my Bali holiday (yes I know, you're all waiting for the write up and pics... they ARE comming), I made a few decisions about my life etc. Very deep. :D . I'm currently single and have decided that that is okay with me. I love being alone, love my time and don't mind living alone (as long as I have my animals of course). I also decided that I'm finally moving out of the family home (to my parents utter relief) I'm currently on the hunt for a unit/flat. It is going to be tough as I have quite a few restrictions/needs... two bedrooms, backyard (big enough for my avairy), must allow pets and resonaby cheap!!! I have found one that I'm hoping to look at when they have an inspection time. It sounds pretty good... but... the bathroom and laundry is combined (not that that is really an issue as it's only me living there), and it looks pretty old, BUT I'm pretty good at being creative, and so what if it's kinda ugly :) lol... My hotness will pretty the place up in no time!!! I just can't be too fussy with what I NEED. So yeah... I'm really excited and hope I can find something suitable. Yeah for me!!! Please feel free to send all of your good luck wishes etc to me so I find the place I want :D Thanks in advance lol...

YAY!!! moving out!! What a big step!

I moved out of home when i was 18... and moved straight into a rented unit with my finance (now hubby hehe)! It said no pets, but i still managed to convince the land lord to let me have my aviary and turtle - and i had a few rescue animals that he never new about too hehe. Land lords basically want to make sure their house and land stays in one piece and dosen't get trashed by big dogs etc.

Make sure any rental you get is clean and that all the appliances work. The problem with renting is that if something dosen't suit you, or dosen't work, you cant do anything about it until the land lord approves and pays for it. I had a friend who had no oven because the land lord would not get it fixed (she moved out and it was still broken) etc..... Just be careful.

Good luck and i hope you find something that suits your needs!!! :)

wow, that is a big decision. i really hope you find a place that you like and will let you have your pets.

Do you work at the moment? We have given up on Melbourne as it is ust too expensive. For what we would pay in rent in Melbourne we can buy a house in Gippsland so we are heading out towards Sale at the end of the year. We plan to buy a big property. What do you do for a living Maesie? We found that there are actually more opportunities for us both to find work in Sale or Traralgon so thinking utside the square has turned out really well for us.

Yep. I work full time in a small family business as a bookbinder. We bind albums, papers etc... but our main job is making Wedding albums. We make them from scratch... from gluing paper together, leather covers etc... it's definately an art and I love it. I've gone through the costs involved and based on my current wage I'm sure I'll be fine. I guess it's something I'll figure out when I'm out. It will be a matter of doing the sums and figuring out how much I need to put away each week. But the overall picture looks good. I've heard Melb is expensive. There are many suburbs like that in Geelong to. It's a matter of not going to expensive or to cheap.

When we looked around Melbourne a couple of months ago we also considered areas like Romsey which are only just outside Melbourne but aren't really well known yet. To buy a small house there would have been about $550-$700 a fortnight mortgage repayments about the same as we would pay in rent here. Are there areas like that near Geelong?

Not 100% sure. I havn't looked into buying or houses. Check it out though... It's a nice place to live and not far from Melb. We have a pretty decent mix of suburbs. You have your good ones... Highton, Newtown, Drumcondra, Leopold (just to name a few) you have your middle of the road ones, and then you have the ones you would get paid to live in :) but I guess all areas have those!

Very Very cool...thought I am married with 2 kids, I love my solitare time too, enjoy it :P...if I wasn't married I would have so many animals and be in so many different things involved with animals but since I am and loving it my path is different :( Proud of you!

Good luck in your searching Maesie, I'm sure you'll find just what you're looking for :(

Well, over the past few weeks, I think I've spent more time on real estate websites than here  Been fun but like you guys more!!! lol

I've found many places I liked but pets are not permitted. I have viewed two places. One last night... and all I will say was that it was not a place I would want my worst enemy to live in... BUT tonight, I have found the perfect (well near enough) unit for me.

Great location, bigish yard (will fit an avairy :hap: ), lots of cupboard space... I could go on... I can have my lizards and birds, but not my Cat :hap: I'll miss having her around, but due to her age (she's 13), we weren't sure she'd deal with a move anyway. My theory is that if she is not there... I could have an inside bird or quarantine birds inside!!!!!! YAH for me!!!!!!!!

Um... applied striaght away, but because it's friday, I probably wont find out until middle of next week. Going to be the longest days of my life. I really love it and can see myself living there... but am trying really hard not to get excited as there were a few interested people there...

So, here comes the favour: please, please, please send all your well wishes, prayers, good thoughts etc... my way and hopefully together we can make it happen!!! :hap:

Thanks all, maesie xxx

that is great you found a place you like and one that will let you have your pets. i will be praying that you get the place.

Good luck Maesie, if it falls through I have a place here for ya- cheap, renovated and 1/4 acre backyard- whatever animals you like!! (good landlord too!!)

:P Thanks MB, Deb and Pie. If only you lived close to me I'd jump at the offer :nest: It also seems all the good birds are over there too!!! lol

Good luck "fingers and toes"! I know how awful the waiting part is. My boyfriend and i bought a house about six months ago, real estate agents were so awful in not letting us know anything, so many sleepless nights....

Good luck!!! :P I really hope you get the place you have your eye on! I'm starting to see MASSIVE appeal at having your own place, i can't wait till i'm done with study so i can work full time to afford to move out. I can have all my pets and do things my way.....ahhhhh....bliss...... :nest:

Yeah, thanks all. I've crossed everything possible and will try to keep busy.

Bea... I so can't wait. I can go out and not have to tell anyone when I'll be back. I'll do chores when I want, I can sleep in on weekends unill whenever... I could go on and on :nest:
