The hardest time you will ever show your birds is the first time you show them ;)

My aviary is still in its temporary position, so it is sitting on pavers, not the concrete slab where it will eventually go. That is why the sand was down. Tha pavers naturally slope away from the house, so when it rains, water does run down the pavers, thus the water coming in. This was a major concern over winter, thus the sand - which was very thick. Now hotter summer weather is coming, I am not as concerned. The aviary will be moving soon, one way or another.
I might, but then showing to me is nowhere near as important as breeding great birds. I think Hans would understand.
Hans was limited by the fact he would not show on a Sunday as a Christian. He did show his birds on Saturdays. Now he has no birds and no aviary due to ill health. Showing your birds may give you a form of satisfaction that you are heading in the right direction with the choices you are making in pairing up your birds.
My issue is that my club meets on a friday night at about 7:30pm. That is great if you are retired and this is your one big night out a week, but for a young person, friday night budgie club meetings are just rubbish. So much so that I have not been to one since August I think as it is just not convenient for me to go on a Friday night. I am even going to have to consider moving clubs I think.

I agree with you Friday night would be a poor choice for meetings.

My club's meetings are on a Friday night, having been moved from a Monday back in the 90's. This was done to make it more family friendly (ie late nights for school kids are not good). However we now find that many of us are eager to get home to watch the footy! I guess you can't please everyone.

Not many school kids at my club, seems more like an old person's club. At 34, I am the youngest there.

Our club meeting goes from 7:30pm until about 11pm. It is either all footy or no footy.

A very hot day here in he West of Sydney, with temps rising to 39 degrees.

I was off work today due to a back injury, so I managed to get outside and hose down the aviary. I also managed to adjust the spray setting, and so I hosed down quite a few birds.

The hot wind was the worst bit of the heat.

Hopefully tomorrow will not be as hot. Definitely BBQ weather for dinner.

We had a peak of hot weather on Saturday, it reached 37C. Mind you 39C for Sydney is unbearable, it would be equivalent to 45C here. Glad your birds got through it okay :)

I am taking some birds from my aviary to my sisters place on Saturday, and then after that, I will look at which birds I want to keep, and which ones I do not.

I am not about making a profit on birds.

If they do not fit into my plans, then I am happy to move them on, at a cheap rate.

I willl post some birds that I am moving on in the "for sale" forum very soon.

Wattle Flights has opened up a new subdivision, some 25 minutes away, entitled The Harrington Flight.

Today I moved 10 birds from my aviary into the aviary I had bought for my nephews. This new aviary is smaller than mine, and none of the birds moved are part of my breeding program.

Humphrey, my first bird, is now King over there, Sunshine - a lute, Libby - a lute I was given by board member Libby, Hugo - a Double Factor Dom Pied, Athena - a blue hen (and the hardest to let go of), Aphrodite - sister of Athena and yellow faced type 2 sky blue hen, a greygreen spangle, a grey spangle, and 2 rescued pet types all have a new home.

Some :P

The aviary was orginally used as a snakehouse, so there was a hole at the back where the light was placed. I enlarged the hole, and place a vent in there. That will allow an increase in air circulation, but will not let water in.

All up, the boys are pleased, my sister is pleased, her hubby, not so pleased, and I have some more room in my aviary.

Step one of the cull program has begun.

Today is the first full day some birds are in their new aviary at The Harrington Flight.

My sister called me this morning at 8am to tell me that "I gave her the wrong budgies, these ones starting chiping whilst SHE was still asleep :D"

She said that the birds were well, they hade been eating seed and veges, and that the kids loved them.

The best news however was that her hubby loved them. He loved waking up every morning and hearing them chirp. This is the one thing that I love about the birds as well, the sound of pure joy they show each and every morning as they chirp away happily.

Winning him over is the biggest victory.

There will never be any breeding of birds out there, my nephews can come and assist me when it comes to that, but I am very pleased that everyone loves them.

The future looks very good for The Harrington Flight subdivision :P

So I was thinking about Quiche, the young male I am getting from Kaz, that was bred by Ommelette (you can read about him by clicking HERE) and I was pre-planning.

I took some pics of my birds with that in mind. I took some pics of some Dominant Pieds for Kaz, and I took some random shots. They are all below. Sorry they are dark - no flash on my iphone.

Potentials in there. The Cec Gearing bred GreyGreen Spangle Hen, or the very well marked light green spangle hen in the back of some pics would be my initial options.
