Posted May 1, 200817 yr I was in a rush and had my 2 babys in my hands taking them to the Aviary. Cinnamon wriggled and I lost my grip and she flew away. These are my first babys and I can't believe how quickly he learned to fly. I have been sitting outside to try and catch a glimpse of him. But he just flew up and away so quickly. I hope anyone reading this never has the same experience... I feel so stupid. And upset as he is only 4 weeks and 4 days old and cannot feed himself yet. So I have condemmed him to an early death. Is there any hope that he might be able to survive on his own or come back?
May 1, 200817 yr I am so sorry How horrible!! I can't even begin to imagine how bad you must be feeling (((HUGS))) I hope he comes back. What is your area like?? Budgies call can be heard for quite a distance and a number of members have had lost budgies return up to 4 days after their escape. I really hope he hears his parents, and comes back for you. I have all my fingers and toes crossed for you. There is a lost and found section you could post in to. All the best. Keep us posted
May 1, 200817 yr How sad She probably isn't very strong yet so she might not have gone far, I would quickly write up some fliers and stick them up on the light posts, etc around your area incase someone finds her. Just a thought too incase you need to do a quick transport like that again. I have an old pillowcase that I put them in for quick moves between the aviary and the house, that way you hold the case tightly at the top and there is no way they can get out. May 1, 200817 yr I lost about a 4-5 week old normal green bub once who wasn't feeding herself.we couldn't find her the first day, spotted her the second day in a tree, tried to catch her and she flew off like a pro. After the third day we'd given up hope. My partner and i were sitting out by the aviary watching the birds, when this little green hen walked up on the clear sheeting ontop of it!!!!! my partner went around the back, scared her to me and i netted her!!!! She was starving! so don't give up hope! she may still come back!
May 1, 200817 yr Hopefully she will come back and you can hear her vocalizing;at that age she couldn't have gone that far.
May 1, 200817 yr same thing happened to me last weekend with Thor. I was trying to get him to move him when he scurried out and flew away. I prayed he would be back, but I think not. May 1, 200817 yr I have had babies come back after nicking off. Hopefully he'll hear the other birds and return for you. Sending positive thoughts your way.
May 1, 200817 yr you have great suggestions, don't give up and we have a article in the FAQ about Lost Budgies and what to do, with her being so young I wouldn't be surprised if she came back to the aviary so watch for signs of her in the trees and on the aviary sides clinging. Don't beat yourself up we all have done something and regretted it, it was an accident.
May 2, 200817 yr Oh you poor thing. I have had a baby fly out of a cage quickly before I knew what was going on and didn't find him Hope yours turns up.
