Posted April 21, 200817 yr A few times a year I pull every bird out of the aviary for a check up. This time round I found this little guy. Whizzing around with all his mates I never would have spotted this, it was only when he was in my hand that I realised and was able to give his beak a little trim.
April 21, 200817 yr it must be hard when you have alot of budgies to watch them all, i only have 10 in my aviary so i check mine every morning and i have one that has a beak problem that i trim every couple of weeks.
April 21, 200817 yr Poor little bugger, MB clip him up good , he should be able to eat properly again .....
April 21, 200817 yr I love budgies but I think that if I had so many I'd go insane. I mean, taking care of my little budgie family makes me pretty busy... they're already such scroundels.
April 21, 200817 yr Yes I agree, I go in everyday and study my flock, check their bottoms ect to make sure they are all in good health
April 22, 200817 yr Yes I agree, I go in everyday and study my flock, check their bottoms ect to make sure they are all in good health Yes I do this everyday also, I probably spend way to much time in there when there is a million other things I should be doing
April 22, 200817 yr Author I also spend heaps of time in there, the problem is that nearly half my flock are goldenface just like that little guy so it's hard to know if you've looked at them all. Easier to just catch the lot and put them all in a small flight cage and then take them out one by one, check breastbone, beak, etc. and that way any that are struggling for any reason can be isolated easily.
April 24, 200817 yr I check mine over visually every week then a good physical when they have their Fido wash bath every 6 months. I usually end up with about 10 chunks missing from my fingers - the rosella's are the worst! :
