just thought i would make a post about your budgies favourite toy...

show us a picture if you like or just describe it, Bing's favourite toy would have to be his olympic rings, he rattles them around like crazy and plays with the bell down the bottom while on the swing, it is quite hilraious watching him beat it up :)

Most of my budgies like that same toy too....and the swings. Even the show budgies like the toys :)

Cheapest toy EVER !

I buy many of these as my hen loves to destroy them ! SHE LOVES to rip the little bell balls out of these things ... maybe she hates it ? Strangely ... the Weebil (WHO NEVER PLAYS WITH ANYTHING) has started to find some interest in this toy. I am happy when they play & are destructive to their toys and not the walls or my furniture in the apartment.

i have the same toys as NickNack and i have a spare seed container in the cage so i put a ball in it.Runt spends ages playing with the ball, trying to get it out of the container and then putting it back in.

Charley's favourite is the plastic latticed ball with bell inside. He plays basketball by picking it up with his beak and throwing it up. He often ends up "basketing" it (into the water dish or in between the rungs of his ladder). Its funny to watch as he runs around the bottom of the cage as if he has imaginary team mates to pass it to!! then runs back the other way so "they" can pass it back to him!

Besides the ball, the olympic rings win hands down! I sometimes rotate them with the similar string of latticed balls but he doesnt find them half as interesting. The rings he swings from, "throws" himself through the middle (luckily he fits!!) , hangs upside down and sometimes swings violently, hanging on for dear life! Its comical to watch him hanging upside down by one toe and seeing him contemplating on the best way to get down.."should I just let go??.. what do I DO???? HELP!!" .. as he swings back and forth wildly, squawking in delight (?).. or frustration perhaps? (I'm sure all budgie people can picture it!!)

Charley rarely "not-plays"!! I would willingly bet that he is the most active, noisiest, talkative chappy in Budgiedom!! Maxie (Maxine!) on the other hand only occasionally puts a tentative foot on her toys and if lucky, I might hear a very soft "tweet" now and then. I rarely see, or hear her play. (she does have her wild loud screeching moments, so she's perfectly healthy!)

Oh and I have also picked up from this forum the idea of a little container with little nick-nacks (sorry nick nack... nothing personal!!). e.g. a small thimble, not too small button, safety pin, curtain ring, small lids.. etc which he LOVES taking out of the container, I put them all back in, he takes them all out. He loves that little game and he always wins in the end!! (he wont give up before I do!!)

Not a problem there 'thk' ! I was surprised at your story about the little pile of things in a container for your bird to toss & you to retrieve. I have that here also. I have some dismantled balls from the broken hanging balls, some nice small polished rocks, a couple of plastic thread spools (without thread) some large cool marbles or crystal boulders that roll around the tray I have them in, & more little odds & ends. I like watching the hen ... she pushes a purple bluey rock around & around the tray in circles. Sometimes I think she wants to sit on it. It looks like she is pushing it under her.

Maybe she is pretending this semi flat cool rock is an odd shaped egg ? The entire time she plays the Weebil watches her & does nothing. THEY ARE SOOOOOOOOOOO DIFFERENT these 2 Birds !

I am always amazed at how much amusement a budgie can find in a simple toy! My budgies have never really gone for elaborate expensive toys - their favourites are really simple.

Squee:

She adores this little toy I made in about ten minutes - a beaded chain with a metal clip. I clip it on the horizontal bars of her cage and she will spend hours tugging at it, sliding it along the bar, nibbling at each bit, picking it up, trying to fly away with it, growling at it, singing to it, pecking at it, boxing with it..!

Here it is out of the cage.

(She loves that yellow bead too!)

She can pick it up from each of the beads (including the pony beads) or the metal bit.

Milly investigates the pink one but isn't impressed. (All the better for me! Squee says).

Milly:

I don't have a picture of Milly's favourite toy. It comes from that very same chain of balls that everyone seems to have! But it's not the balls - it's the plastic hook! :D

I have hooked it onto her main perch. Milly, sweet little thing she is, will spend hours with her head floofed up, eyes closed, with the bit of the hook that sticks out for head scritches. *rubrubrub* It's so adorable.

Do carrots count as toys? Cause that comes a close second!

NO NO NO NEAT ! They love to destroy them balls. Something tells them KILL KILL DESTROY ... must beat the balls & pull em outta their little sockets. That's the fun of it. Every once & a while I will hear "CLUNK. I look over & there the birds sit staring down at the dead ball & or balls laying on the bottom of the cage. They're look seems to be .... " HMMM ... whatayathinkabout that eh ? DEAD ! I killed another one ! LOOKIT lying there ... Ya think dumbo over there will come & pick it up from the floor of the cage & fix it ? Like the other 1000 times before ? " Let's sit here & stare at it some more & look forlorn & lost & sad, maybe he will come & fix it for us. Heh heh ... here he comes now. LOSER ! It gets him every time ! "

I have the same balls nicknack have... I had two sets. First set they have since a long time but there's a ball missing. Second set just broke apart and are now just little balls that they throw around to test the Law of Gravity.

But their favorite toy... They like the rope toys I get 'em but their favorite toy has to be their own moulted away feathers  They just can't resist coming over whenever I hold one of these up.

EDIT: Oh. And Bud likes Nintendo DS consoles. She stands on the top of the first screen and stares down at whatever is going on and tries to eat the graphics. Silly silly big girl.

I love that your Squee loves the beads on the chain or just the plain bead. My hen is a duplicate to Squee & its amazing to watch her play with beads & things. She really has so much fun !

& yes ... I think Carrot counts as a good toy too. I put a huge chunk of carrot in their tray & watch Saucy Face's face & feathers under her mouth turn all orange while she shreds the carrot & plays in the grinds of it. She loves to do that.
