pics have been turned to links board regulation no larger then 450x450, please read how to size in the guidelines thank you for understanding.

The Dad is a golden face type 2 cobalt or violet ( looks like violet ) budgie ...which in essence makes him a blue budgie that appear to look green due to the golden face gene creating a wash of yellow over his blue and giving him the green look.

is there blue under the wings of the dad? I'm curious :fear

Not certain...will check at afternoon feeding and let you know.

Is there a better color choice for a hen to pair him with?

You seem to have got some lovely results with this hen :fear

if they threw 3 green babies there is no way both parents can be a blue series as blue is recessive to green, the cock has to be a green series or else if you are open breeding she was messing around with someone else.

but often sometimes the YF2 or GF can be mistaken for a green.. including on some chicks, pictures of the green chicks from the front would help ...

otherwise I agree... most likely a green split to blue and masking yellowface

I agree with Kaz, your bird is a Golden Faced 2 Violet, the spot on the males head means he is either split to Recessive Pied, but because of the size of the spot on the chick that is shown, my theory is that he is in fact a Dominant Pied, but the spot is the only sign of that.

The only reason I said that is I haven't seen a heavy marked YF2/GF2 chick most of the time they have more blue and then they molt into the green but yes a pics of the chicks front and even under the wings would be excellent. But then again, if it was open breeding and not closed and they are green chicks and the dad is a blue series that would also explain that little M.S Hen was being a hussy :P

No...no messin' around going on. All breeders are set up in separate breeding cages.

Not open breeding. Will post the pics of fronts and under wings of green chicks tonite

will take outside so there will be no flash.

Those babies are not Green chicks, as said a front picture would be good, but they both look like YF2 chicks to me.

I believe you :P

Thanks Elly, I hope I'm right. :P

I agree you can totally see the bleed in the dad :P.

Also the spot on the back of the babies' head looks like my Merlin's big spot who has a spot like that mom or dad?

without more pictures my first guess was the same as Kaz... but i'm withholding opinion until I see the chick photos... and find out about the blue under the wing or near the vent. as these will confirm it.

ummm i don't do varieties and mutations etc. so here is my contribution

CUTIES!

Dad has the spot...forgot the cam at feed time this evening

sorry all...will post first thing in the morning. Did look under

dads wings tonite and on his belly yes I do see the blue....

but he looks green and so do the 3 babies. I am new so maybe

they aren't green at all ...just look it to the untrained eye.

Trying to learn...please have patience with me. Will post

new pics of all of them in the a.m. Till tomorrow.

Look forward to it

A large spot like that means that the dad is a dominant pied and so are the babies with the big spot .
