Posted April 8, 200817 yr I bought some cages from my local pet shop for $30 because they where putting in new cages.i am wanting to use them for breeding cabinets but am wondering what is the best setup. Can i leave the perches where they are or should they go from front to back and where would be the best place to mount the nest box. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
April 8, 200817 yr Looks like a bargin Deb ... I'd put the nest boxes on the side and change the perches to run the other way ......That is me though ... You could put the boxes on the front of the cage, then you'd have to cut wire and etc
April 8, 200817 yr I agree with Neat. Perches front to back inside the breeder cabinet. Hole cut through the side of the wood and attach the nestbox to either side. If you had them off the front the birds would lose daylight conditions...dark means not too keen on budgie bonking.
April 8, 200817 yr ...dark means not too keen on budgie bonking. You crack me up everytime you say that Kaz!!! :hap: :hap: I agree too about the perches etc You said they come from a petshop. Are they clean???? Could bugs, mites, viruses etc be lurking in the wood????
April 8, 200817 yr Author Thanks Neat and kaz for the ideas, how many perches would you recommended i put in and would dowel rods or tree branches be better. The pet shop i got them from is one i have found to be a pretty good shop and the cages have not been used for 6 months and i have given them a good clean. Edited April 8, 200817 yr by deb

Dowel is fine for breeding but thicker than the normal thickness of perch :yellowhead:
